Have you got a very long list of things you SHOULD be oding like having a perfect house, always neat and tidy perfect relationships , a patient parent at all times . its not humanly possible this level of excellence 100% of the time.
These Shoulds totally drain our energy and this internal self talk /inner critic conflict often leads to either overworking or complete apathy. Neither strategy helps us manage our stress or achieve balance
Those "shoulds" don't just appear out of nowhere. They are often inherited—a mix of what society, our parents, or even past versions of ourselves told us we had to do. They live in our minds as obligations, not choices.
But there’s a simple way to take your power back.
Replace the word "should" with "could" or "I get to."
"I should go to the gym" becomes "I could go to the gym."
"I should be a better friend" becomes "I get to be a better friend."
Choosing a different word actually makes the decision feel more like a choice—not a command. It shifts your mindset from external pressure to personal freedom, and that's the key to reclaiming your energy.
What’s one "should" you're choosing to transform today?
