👂 Today is and this year, it's all about our children.

90 million kids worldwide live with hearing loss. Over 60% of cases are preventable, yet most go undetected, especially in schools and low-resource communities.

Early detection changes everything from language development to confidence in the classroom:

✅ Get your child's hearing checked
✅ Talk to teachers about hearing-friendly classrooms
✅ Spread the word

Hearing loss is often invisible. Let's make sure no child falls through the cracks.

Let's make sure every child is heard. 💙

Today we recognise Cochlear Implant Awareness Day 💙

How does a cochlear implant work:

🔹 The external processor picks up sound
🔹 Sound is converted into digital signals
🔹 The internal implant sends electrical signals directly to the hearing nerve
🔹 The brain interprets these signals as sound

Technology + rehabilitation + multidisciplinary care = life-changing outcomes.

Did you know that hearing aids aren’t the solution for everyone?

For people with severe to profound hearing loss, a cochlear implant can provide access to sound by directly stimulating the hearing nerve.

Cochlear implants can:
✨ Improve speech understanding
✨ Support language development in children
✨ Increase independence and confidence
✨ Enhance connection with loved ones

From initial assessment to surgery, activation, and rehabilitation, each stage of the journey is supported by a team committed to guiding the patient every step of the way.

If hearing aids are no longer enough, it may be time to explore other options.

Weekend plans? Don't forget your ears! 🎵

Whether you're heading to a concert, catching a game, or enjoying live music at your favorite spot, loud environments can impact your hearing health.

Quick tips for protecting your ears while still having fun:
✨ Take listening breaks - step outside for fresh air every hour
✨ Keep a comfortable distance from speakers
✨ Consider earplugs (the good kind that reduce volume without muffling sound!)
✨ Give your ears 18 hours of quiet recovery time after loud events

You can absolutely enjoy all the sounds you love AND protect your hearing. It's not about missing out, it's about hearing clearly for years to come.

Have an amazing weekend!

If you've been asking people to repeat themselves more often lately, you're not alone. Many of our patients initially thought they just weren't paying attention or that everyone around them mumbled!
Here are some subtle signs your hearing might need a checkup:

* Following conversations feels exhausting, especially in groups
* You're reading lips more than you used to
* Phone conversations are harder than face-to-face chats
* You turn up the TV but others say it's too loud

The good news? A hearing test is quick, painless, and gives you clarity (literally!). Most hearing changes are gradual, so catching them early makes all the difference.

A new chapter for Irish hearing care!

At Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, a cochlear implant procedure has been completed using OTODRIVE* and OTOARM precision tools — marking the first time this technology has been used in Ireland.

These tools help surgeons carry out incredibly steady and precise movements during surgery, supporting careful placement of the implant with consistency and control.

After the procedure, Mr Fergal Glynn FRCS (ORL-HNS), Consultant ENT Surgeon at Beaumont Hospital, shared:

“As clinicians, we are always looking to embrace innovative technology to improve our patient care. The OTOARM is a very exciting development from MED-EL, and we are delighted to have access to this at Beaumont Hospital.”

These precision tools support surgeons during cochlear implant electrode insertion, and its adoption in Ireland marks a great step forward for those eligible for a cochlear implant.

Working from the office today? Your ears might be working overtime too! 👂

Open office plans, conference calls, and city commutes can expose us to more noise than we realize. If you find yourself turning up the volume on your headphones to drown out background noise, that's your sign to give your hearing some extra care.

Try the 60/60 rule: Listen at no more than 60% volume for no more than 60 minutes at a time. Your future self will thank you!
