Can make a Heav’n of Hell, a Hell of Heav’n."

Our minds have the power to shape our experience of reality. A switch of perspective may be all that is needed to transform an experience.

For almost 13 years now I have been practicing Yoga.

For the first few years, I was practicing only Yoga asana, physical Yoga, but I could feel that there was a lot more to it. I knew it was changing me emotionally and mentally as well as physically.

I have spent almost 9 years studying yoga. Different schools, styles, pranayama, meditation, ayurveda, physically challenging Yoga and physically restful Yoga.
I have, unknown to myself at the start, spent a lot of time studying myself, attempting to break old patterns, learning to value myself, chasing my dharma, my calling, and trying to become a better version of myself.

I have felt defeated many times, but I have gone back to try again. I have had many moments of doubt, doubting if I belong in a place, if I am good enough, but I know this is all part of the learning.

I definitely do not have all of the answers but one thing I do know is I will never stop learning. I will never stop challenging myself, growing, developing & changing. We are ever-developing, complex beings who are trying to become the best versions of ourselves and reach our full potential.

What yoga has taught me:

After over a decade of practice I have learned so much, sone things might surprise you. This is a deep and life long practice and never ending learning.

It is ok to feel challenged- this is where growth happens. It is ok to feel vulnerable - this is where transformation happens.

How to regulate my nervous system, to stay grounded and steady in uncomfortable situations.

There is a time to be strong and steady, and a time to surrender.

To understand myself, check in with myself, notice what's not quite right, and I have the tools to fix it.

Movement is medicine, as is mantra, pranayama and meditation.

To take care of my physical body and my energetic body, this will help me to feel good mentally.

To be proud of myself.

To back myself - I am so capable.

To let go of perfectionism and ego.

I am not my thoughts.

Do you have anything else to add?

"Yogas Chitta Vritti Nirodha"

Yoga Sutra 1.2 by Patanjali

True yoga involves stilling the mind's constant fluctuations, the chatter, thoughts, and emotions (vrittis) that arise from the mind (chitta), leading to a state of inner peace, clarity, and union with the Self.

There are five types of Vrittis:
Right Cognition (Pramana),
Misconception (Viparyaya),
Imagination (Vikalpa),
Sleep (Nidra), and
Memory (Smriti),
Each has a unique influence on our daily lives and spiritual journey.

My Journey So Far...

I started my yoga journey around 2013 when I was living in Perth, Western Australia. I went to my first class, like many others, looking for a new type of physical exercise. I was surprised to find I couldn’t do many of the poses and I could not believe how stiff my body was and how little balance I had. I went to the gym regularly but I was really surprised that I found yoga physically very challenging. But I quickly saw the benefits. I noticed my body ease into the poses after some practice and felt myself build strength and flexibility and I loved this change I was going through. I also noticed it was one of the only ways I could get my overactive “monkey mind” to slow down. Soon I was practicing 4 / 5 times a week, I was fortunate enough to have amazing teachers at The Yoga Vine in Perth who thought me so much and helped me deepen my journey and I found myself wanting to learn more about the asanas, anatomy, the history, philosophy, meditation and pranayama so I decided to do my teacher training.

I did my 200 hour yoga teacher training In Koh Lanta in Thailand with Dr Gaurav Malik - Ashtak yoga school in 2017. It was an intense, physically and emotionally challenging 4 weeks but an amazing opportunity to immerse myself in the practice and learn everything Gaurav had to teach us. I learned more than I ever thought I would and couldn’t wait to continue my journey and learning.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to practice with and learn from some amazing teachers in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Ireland. I have practiced many different types of yoga including Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga, Yin and Hot yoga. I now teach in Abbeystrewery Hall, Bridge Street, Skibbereen: Dynamic Vinyasa Tuesdays 8pm and Sunrise Vinyasa Thursdays 7am and in Caharagh Mondays at 7pm. I feel so fortunate to be able to share the things I have learned over the years with people and also continue my learning through teaching, completing more trainings and reading. I believe you are forever a student, in every aspect of life and there is so much to learn. I have a huge interest in wellness in general – fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, self-care and essential oils and I am constantly furthering my learning.
