Chicken Tikka Masala & a nice glass of vino, perfect Sunday evening!

I usually double up on the tandoori chicken and use it during the week with flatbreads and a nice big salad.

It can also be used as the base for lots of Indian dishes.

A food rule is when you allow your food choices to be determined by a self imposed guideline that you listen to over your body's own internal cues.

Rigid food rules can actually hinder fat loss goals through taking away your ability to listen to your body's needs as well as promoting an all or nothing mentality, which may result in overeating.

Cutting out food groups or not allowing yourself a treat because it is ‘bad’, can actually lead to increased cravings, along with feelings of guilt which may contribute to continued ‘binge’ and ‘restrict’ cycles.

Setting unrealistic expectations such as no processed foods, no fruit, no white foods, sets you up for failure straight away which will impede progress.
Unless you are eating a fully raw, whole food diet, it is likely you are actually eating some processed foods which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Eating after x time in the evening will not make you gain weight. Unless it causes digestive discomfort, there is no need to have a rule whereby you must stop eating by a certain time.

You don’t have to clear your plate every time you have a meal. If you are satisfied, you can stop eating.

What is Resistance Training

Resistance Training is basically any type of exercise focused on building muscle (toning), strength and/or endurance.

It is simply the practise of creating resistance via body weight, bands or weights and is based on functional movements such as pulling, pushing, lifting.

The goal is to put the muscles under tension in order to stimulate muscle growth and improve muscle strength.

Resistance training is associated with many physical and mental health benefits, including:

✅Minimising natural loss of lean muscle, age 30+ (sarcopenia)
✅Reducing the risk of osteoporosis
✅Lowering risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes
✅Improving self-esteem and mood
✅Reducing symptoms of depression
✅Improving body composition
✅Increasing metabolic rate

Along with good nutrition, resistance training can also support fatloss goals, through increasing your metabolic rate. You will then burn more calories while at rest.

For females, not only does it help with ‘toning up’; in perimenopause or menopause, as oestrogen levels change; resistance training can help minimise reductions in bone density which can lead to osteoperosis, along with helping with potential disruptions to mood which can occur in these stages.

Sunday morning baking!
Raspberry & Vanilla cupcakes

129 cals each

Ingredients:
(Makes 10-12 cupcakes)
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
100g raspberries
2 eggs
100g Self raising flour
130g Connaught gold half fat butter
50g canderel
5g icing sugar for dusting

To make:
Set oven to 180
Cream butter and sugar together
Sieve in flour
Add in eggs, baking powder, vanilla extract
Mix
Stir through raspberries
Divide into cupcake cases and bake for 12-15 mins
When cooled, dust with icing sugar
