Last weekend, I spent my time in Malahide training in Reproflexology®, a specialist approach to fertility and reproductive health which was taught and founded by the truly brilliant Barbara Scott 👣

Around 1 in 6 people experience fertility challenges, and yet the go to response is often medication as a “quick fix”.

Reproflexology® offers a gentle, natural approach that works with the body to support reproductive health. It can help support your fertility, reproductive health and your pre-conception journey.

For women it is crucial that we work to balance the menstrual cycle before actively trying to conceive.
For men reproflexology supports s***m health by encouraging optimal quantity, quality and motility.

Reproflexology was created to gently support those going through fertility challenges, and over the years it’s helped couples worldwide welcome beautiful healthy babies.
It’s a fully evidence-based, science-led, clinically founded approach that uses specific protocols and data to support natural conception, IVF, hormone balance and overall reproductive wellbeing, for both women and men.

What really stood out to me is how deeply rooted it is in research, while placing each individual at the heart of everything. It’s completely tailored to each person ~ because every body is different.

Whether you’re curious about naturally regulating your reproductive system, currently on your own natural conception journey or you’re going through medical treatment like IVF, Reproflexology® offers gentle, beneficial, informed support.

So many people are stuck in fight or flight without even realising it.
That wired~but~tired feeling, the shallow breathing, poor sleep, the constant tension in your body it’s often your nervous system doing its best to keep you going, even when you’ve hit burn out.

When stress becomes longterm, it can affect much more than just how you feel day to day such as,
🌻 disruptive sleep
🌻 digestive issues
🌻 playing havoc to your hormone balance
🌻 can impact fertility
🌻 heightened anxiety or mood swings
🌻 sugar cravings
🌻 muscle tension

👣 From a reflexology perspective, we don’t treat stress directly. We work with the body as a whole, calming your nervous system, supporting your adrenal glands, balancing the reflexes related to your endocrine and reproductive system which encourages your body to shift from the survival mode of “fight or flight” stress can cause into a more parasympathetic state of “rest and digest”.

👣 Your body needs to feel safe to prioritise things like reproduction and repair, unfortunately stress signals the opposite. When we’re constantly “go go go” your nervous system stays alert, and your body will prioritise this over hormone balance and fertility. Reflexology helps bring the body back into a place of calm and regulation, where it can begin to soften, come back to balance, and feel safe again.

👣 Reflexology creates space for that safety gently and naturally without overwhelming your body’s ability to restore balance naturally within.

It is honestly amazing as the more you receive reflexology, the more in tune you become with your own body. When I work on clients who receive treatments regularly, they can often pinpoint the exact reflex I’m working on just from the sensation they feel.
Afterwards clients have said they feel more emotionally settled and more connected to what their bodies need which is an essential part of supporting fertility in both men and women.

How to prepare for your reflexology appointment?

👣 Reflexology is a gentle manipulation by applying pressure to specific reflex points on the foot which stimulates the flow of oxygenated blood, helping to release blockages in specific areas that may be causing pain or discomfort in our bodies.

🌻 The above points aren’t really necessary preparation tips, they’re more like guidelines ~ wee things like staying hydrated, wearing something comfy and giving yourself a bit of time to arrive unhurried can truly help you settle in and get the most out of receiving reflexology.

👣 Pre and Post Receiving Reflexology 👣

It always amazes me how deeply calming reflexology can be, even for the tiniest wee nervous systems.

Reflexology is a gentle, nurturing therapy that meets your body where it’s at ~ bringing calm, ease and your body naturally back to a balanced state.
It supports whatever you may need in that moment in time.

💧 After a reflexology session, one thing I always remind clients of is the importance of staying conscious of their water intake, especially for the 24–48 hours post session.

👣 In reflexology, it’s believed that imbalances in the body can lead to tiny crystalline deposits, such as uric acid or calcium crystals which form at specific reflex points on your feet.
These can develop due to a few wee factors, with lifestyle being a major one!

👣 These deposits may interfere with circulation and nerve function. During your session, I apply pressure to these reflex points to help break down these crystals so they can be dispersed through the bloodstream and eliminated naturally.

💧 Drinking plenty of water before and after your session supports this process, helping to flush out any released toxins and reducing the chance of post-session fatigue or discomfort. Adding a pinch of unrefined sea salt to your water can also replenish electrolytes, supporting hydration, energy levels and digestion.

❌Important to note that your table salt, packet salt or any highly processed salt will not do the same job❌

👣 Alongside staying hydrated, it’s best to avoid caffeine and alcohol, eat light, nourishing meals and give yourself time to rest after your appointment.
These small steps can make a big difference in how your body absorbs the benefits of reflexology.

🦶Let’s clear up a common misconception ~
Reflexology is truly not the same as receiving a foot massage.
It is a gentle manipulation by applying pressure to specific reflex points on the foot which stimulates the flow of oxygenated blood, helping to release blockages in specific areas that may be causing pain or discomfort in our bodies.

🦶A foot massage focuses on relaxation and relieving muscle tension in the feet. It typically involves massage techniques to soothe tired feet and improve circulation but it doesn’t stimulate the reflex points like reflexology or aim to influence overall body function.

🦶While a foot massage focuses on relaxing tired muscles, reflexology works with your body’s natural healing response as specific points on the feet (as well as the hands and ears) correspond to an organ or system in your body addressing all internal organs and glands, as well as muscle groups, bones, nerves such as sciatic and nerve ganglions such as our solar plexus.

Reflexology focuses on pressure points in the feet, promoting physical well-being.
Some benefits that come from receiving reflexology regularly can be:
🌻Improved Sleep Quality
🌻Improves Blood Circulation
🌻Supports Hormonal Balance
🌻Support for Digestive Issues
🌻Supports Pain Relief ~ headaches, muscular pain, arthritis etc.
🌻Fertility Support
🌻Post Surgery Recovery
🌻Reduces Stress Levels and Anxiety

🦶Each session of reflexology helps your body remove toxins very quickly and continues to do so after you receive. Helping to ground your body and bringing it back to homeostasis.

Your feet hold SO MUCH potential for healing and balance. They truly are a gateway into the mind, body and soul.

Just like your feet, your hands are a detailed map of your body, with reflex points corresponding to different organs and systems. Our hands are in constant use and not a part of the body that we look after nearly half enough!

Whether you’re supporting in your role as a massage therapist, acupuncturist, reflexologist, construction worker, shopkeeper, computer work, barista or anyone whose hands are constantly in use (honestly the list goes on) ~ tension can build up without you even realizing it and by the time you notice any tenderness, stiffness or even pain when using your hands that’s usually when we do something about it.
We all do it but why wait until this stage?

If you carry tension there and let’s be honest, most of us do ~ those spots might react with some sensitivity during your session. That sensitivity tells us that energy isn’t flowing as freely as it should ~ and that’s exactly where reflexology can lend a helping hand (pun intended..🙈)

🦶During our session, I’ll always start with your feet. As they’re covered and protected every day, they tend to hold onto more tension and are more sensitive. This makes it easier to get a clearer ‘reading’ from them to note any areas where the energy flow may be restricted. Working on your feet first helps to release built-up stress and bring you into a deep state of relaxation.
👋 Then, I’ll move on to your hands. Since they’re constantly in use and never covered like our feet, they’re usually less sensitive. This part of the treatment is deeply soothing, helping to ease any tightness and strain while further enhancing the benefits from receiving foot reflexology. By the time we’re finished, you’ll feel more balanced, restored, and fully at ease.

Reflexology is all about tuning into what your body needs. Whether it’s your feet or your hands, each session helps to clear blockages, congestion and is a natural way to support your overall well-being. When you take care of your hands and feet you’ll truly be surprised at how much lighter, looser and more balanced your whole body can feel.

👶 Did you know that reflexology for maternity induction is a non-invasive, natural approach that can support your body and help encourage labor?
This natural approach not only promotes relaxation but also stimulates key hormonal functions that are truly beneficial during pregnancy and childbirth.

In women, oxytocin is produced by the hypothalamus and stored in the pituitary gland. This amazing hormone plays a crucial role in signaling uterine contractions during labor and milk secretion during breastfeeding.
By inducing the pituitary reflex through targeted reflexology techniques, we can stimulate the uterine muscles to contract, encouraging labor to start naturally.
Additionally, reflexology supports the production of prostaglandins, which help to move labor along and start or increase the intensity of your contractions.

If you’ve been receiving reflexology throughout your pregnancy, you’re already taking steps to prepare your body for labor!
Many women who incorporate reflexology into their prenatal care have given me feedback on their experience with benefits such as,
🌻Shorter labor
🌻Easier deliveries with fewer interventions
🌻Reduced risk of perineal tearing
🌻Smoother postpartum recovery
🌻Supported optimal baby positioning
🌻Feeling more present and connected to your baby after birth

Reflexology induction is a gentle, non-invasive technique that allows you to relax and rest in the comfort of your home afterward. It is recommended for those whose baby is overdue during their first pregnancy or from 38 weeks for low-risk subsequent pregnancies.

If you’re curious about how reflexology can support your maternity journey and birth experience, please feel free to reach out. Together, we can explore this natural method that respects your body’s innate process and can help you welcome your little one with ease and comfort.
