Meet Our Esteemed Presenter!

We’re proud to welcome Shane McMunn to the Midsummer TCM Conference!

A seasoned practitioner with over 15 years of clinical experience in acupuncture, Tuina, and Chinese herbal medicine, Shane currently serves as Chairman of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA) in Ireland. Through his leadership, he has advanced the professional recognition and integration of TCM both nationally and across Europe.

Shane’s dedication goes beyond the clinic. He is currently pursuing a degree in Chinese at Dalarna University in Sweden and has studied Classical Chinese with renowned scholar Sabine Wilms. His commitment to understanding the language of Chinese medicine reflects a deep respect for its cultural roots.

In his segment, Shane will share his experiences studying the Chinese language and reflect on how linguistic understanding can preserve the authenticity of TCM. He will also present findings from his current research on Western acupuncturists’ attitudes toward learning Chinese and explore how language shapes the future of our medicine.

Join us for this thought-provoking session that bridges culture, language, and tradition.

I was also given the wonderful opportunity to teach tai chi at the first Irish Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Congress in Dublin on Sunday. It was a wonderful event with a great turnout and I look forward to it returning in the coming years. Thanks to the Acupuncture Council of Ireland, the Irish Register of Chinese Medical Herbalists, and the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association
