The dog who chased cats.. only a 1 minute read I promise!
When I was young we had a beautiful collie/sheepdog.
He loved to chase cats, wild cats, tame cats, black cats, white cats, it didn't matter to our 'brave' dog. As long as it moved he was game.
I watched him for days on end chasing a new cat that arrived next door, no reprimanding would keep him away.
The rules were simple, he chased... cat ran.
Until one day... the cat got cornered and was about to jump onto a low roof, the cat realised if he jumped up he had to turn his back on the dog, so he didn't!
The cat faced his fear, the thing he ran from for weeks on end was now up close and personal. The cat was left with a choice, jump up and risk being caught from behind, or stand up and fight.
Which is exactly what he did, arched his back, spat and hissed and pretended he was brave.
The dog didn't know it was a ploy and believed the cat was brave and fierce, he did something that made me laugh out loud, young and all as I was I still remember. The dog whimpered like a pup, dropped his head and took off, tail between his legs.
I remembered this today and linked it with my own fear. The facing of my fear.
I have a technique that I use for a long time now and it works for me.
1. Notice my fear and anxiety. Usually it's a heavy feeling in my chest or throat.
2. Deep breathe and ask a simple question.. what am I fearing now?
3. I then Imagine the event I am fearing and come up with a plan and imagine the feelings around this.
Generally my fear leaves my body...
Remember... any problem that takes an action to remedy it is not a problem.
Any others fit into surrender, drop the rope you clutch.. who knows it may actually be your only solution. Surrender..
I hope this helps. Love to all, we'll be bouncing back to connection in no time. Fionnuala.
