This is the story of Bundee Aki — a warrior who turned criticism into fuel, and uncertainty into glory.

Born in a humble Auckland suburb to Samoan parents, Bundee’s journey wasn’t scripted for greatness. As a boy known as “Bundellu” after the doctor who delivered him, he grew up playing rugby in the tough streets of South Auckland, dreaming big but facing a world that often overlooked him. At one point, he stepped away from the dream, working as a bank teller, questioning if rugby would ever be more than just a childhood passion.

But fate had other plans.

From banging out tries with the Counties Manukau Steelers to storming the Super Rugby stage with the Chiefs — where he helped claim back-to-back titles — Bundee was unstoppable. His fearless runs, bone-crunching tackles, and silky skills made him a force on the field. Yet, the biggest leap was still ahead.

In 2014, Bundee made a bold, life-altering decision: he left New Zealand, the land of his birth, to chase a new dream in Ireland. It wasn’t easy. Critics questioned his loyalty, doubted his heart, and sparked fierce debates about residency rules. The media questioned if he truly belonged. But Bundee’s answer came through his relentless performances, heart, and grit.

He tore up the pitch with Connacht, leading them to their first-ever Pro12 title and earning Player of the Year honors. Then came the green jersey of Ireland — a symbol of hard work and belonging earned through sweat and soul. His debut was electric, and soon he was the backbone of a team that clinched Grand Slams, smashed the All Blacks on home soil for the first time ever, and lifted the Six Nations trophy multiple times.

But even heroes face darkness. A brutal head injury at the 2019 World Cup, a shocking red card, and a harsh suspension threatened to derail his journey. Yet Bundee never backed down. He returned stronger, fiercer, proving resilience is the true mark of greatness.

Fast forward to 2023 — with five tries in a single World Cup campaign and a nomination for World Rugby Player of the Year — Bundee Aki stands not just as a player but a legend. A man who transformed doubt into destiny, who turned new soil into home, and whose story reminds us that sometimes, the greatest victories are born from the hardest battles.

As he continues to inspire on fields from Connacht to the British & Irish Lions tours, Bundee’s journey is a testament: identity is not just where you start, but where your heart fights to belong.

“I'm truly grateful to represent Connacht and Ireland — it means everything to me,” he once said. And for millions watching, it means so much more.

💚 From the streets of Auckland to the roar of Aviva Stadium — Bundee Aki’s story is everything rugby is about: passion, perseverance, and pride.

AVA CREAN has withdrawn from next Monday’s Boston Marathon after sustaining a running related hip injury. The 20-year-old from Limerick is expected to make a return to competition within the next two to three weeks.

Ava rose to prominence last October at the Irish Life Dublin Marathon, where, at just 19 years of age, she delivered a standout performance by finishing sixth overall in the women’s race. She recorded a time of 2:34:12, improving her previous best by approximately nine minutes.

As the first Irish woman across the line, she also claimed the national marathon title, becoming the youngest Irish athlete in history to achieve the honour.

Wishing the Limerick Lady a smooth recovery and a strong return to racing.

Egg Carton Method: The Fastest Way to Plant Bulbs

Stop digging fifty little holes.
This simple kitchen hack lets you plant dozens (even hundreds) of bulbs at once — with perfect spacing every time.

How It Works

Step 1: Dig One Trench
Dig a wide trench to the proper depth — about 3× the height of the bulb. Level the bottom.

Step 2: Set the Spacing
Lay cardboard egg cartons side by side in the trench. Drop one bulb into each cup, pointy end up.

Step 3: Cover & Water
Backfill with soil so bulbs are covered by 4–6 inches. Water deeply to settle soil and start breaking down the cartons.

Step 4: Let Nature Finish the Job
By spring, the cartons are gone — and you’re left with a perfectly spaced carpet of blooms 🌼

Important Material Rules

- Use paper pulp or cardboard cartons only
- Never use Styrofoam or plastic
- Cut a small slit in the bottom of each cup to help roots reach soil faster

Best Bulbs for This Method

Perfect fit:
Tulips, daffodils, crocus, grape hyacinth (muscari), scilla

Skip these:
Giant alliums — they need more room than an egg cup allows

When to Plant

Plant in fall once soil temps drop below 60°F

Water right after planting — moisture speeds carton breakdown

Simple tools. Smart spacing. Big spring payoff.
Sometimes the easiest tricks are the ones hiding in your kitchen drawer 🌷
