With the hot weather due to return next week this is particularly relevant. Ireland's pollen count is at its highest between late March and September, so many people will experience hay fever during these months.
For information on managing your symptoms and treatment see: https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/hay-fever/

Here are some tips for treating hayfever:
👉Apply Vaseline to the nostrils to trap any pollen
👉Avoid drying clothes outside (if possible). If not, give them a good shake before you bring them in
👉Keep windows closed at night, or when the pollen count is high
👉Wear wraparound sunglasses
👉Avoid freshly cut grass
👉Keep an eye on the pollen count. Try to stay indoors as much as possible on days when the pollen count is high
👉Shower and change your clothes after you have been outside on high pollen days
When these tips just aren’t enough, there are plenty of treatments too!
✨Antihistamines are available over the counter for anyone aged 2 years and up. Antihistamines are drugs which treat the symptoms of allergies; such as Cetrine, Zirtek and many more
✨Haybands are a non-medicated alternative treatment for the symptoms of hayfever
✨Nasal sprays and eye drops are also available over the counter
Remember to always speak to your pharmacist for advice in relation to your, or your child’s, specific symptoms.

Today is overcast, with rain at times, so many people think you don’t need to worry about skin damage from the sun! Sorry to say it but cloud coverage does not mean your skin is not exposed to the potential damage of the sun. Even when it feels dull or cool outside, you can get burnt by the sun. These invisible rays, especially UVA, pe*****te deep into the skin, contributing to premature aging and increasing the risk of skin cancer.

Studies from organisations like the World Health Organization show that consistent sunscreen use significantly reduces long-term skin damage. That means daily protection isn’t just for beach days, it’s an everyday essential.

Call into our shops in Swinford and Westport for sunscreen for you and your children to make sure that you are minimising the risk for your family
