Joanne is a Chartered Physiotherapist and member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiotherapy in the University of Limerick. Subsequently, Joanne was awarded her PhD from the University of Limerick. The focus of Joanne's PhD was the feasibility and benefit of Irish set dancing for people with Parkinson's disease. Since qualifying Joanne has worked with the senior Tipperary camogie team and in private practice. Joanne has treated clients with a range of musculoskeletal, sports, orthopaedic and neurological conditions. Joanne also works with older adults in the community and those accessing day care services. Joanne is committed to continued professional education and development and aspires to offer her clients a holistic health approach. To this end, Joanne has gained specialist skills in acupuncture and shoulder and balance rehabilitation. Joanne is also a Functional Movement Screen Level 2 specialist and has a balanced health certificate in Systematic Kinesiology. Joanne recognises the importance of research to excel healthcare services. Joanne's research has attained national and international recognition and has featured on RTE's "The Today Show with Maura and Daithi" and on an American podcast series "Rehabcast". Joanne has presented her research at national and international conferences, published in health professional journals such as "Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation" and developed an educational booklet for Irish set dancers teaching set dancing to people with Parkinson's disease in the community.
