****VERY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE PRESS RELEASE****

Local election candidate confirms party commitment to pop-up pools in election manifesto

Dee Ryan, a Fianna Fáil candidate in the Roscrea-Templemore Local Electoral Area (LEA) in the upcoming local elections, has confirmed that her party’s manifesto for the election commits to supporting the expansion of Pop-Up Pools.

Ryan, who founded the We Just Want to Swim — Templemore campaign, which is calling for the reopening to the public of the Templemore Garda College pool, said the Fianna Fáil manifesto commits to “Collaborate with Swim Ireland to expand coverage of ‘Pop-Up Pools’ in each local authority.”

She said: “I am delighted to confirm that the party manifesto for the local election campaign commits to supporting the expansion of pop-up pools.

“The We Just Want To Swim campaign, which I am so passionate and determined about, is so important to our community.

"The campaign is having an impact. Presently there are five local schools using the pool, and over 300 children so far this year have had swimming lessons in the Garda College pool, all down to the pressure put on by the campaign.

“The manifesto commitment to collaborate with Swim Ireland on bringing pop-up pools to as many people as possible is a significant positive step and I will continue doing everything I can to remove barriers to access for our local swimming facilities.

“My vision for Templemore is for the community to be active and I want to continue helping to ensure that local clubs reach their full potential and impact as many local people as possible.

“I will work hard with national and local sporting bodies to increase this access on behalf of my community.”

Great collage on Candiates running in the Local Elections for Fianna Fáil . I get a mention at the 1.50 minute and delighted to flag the We Just Want To Swim - Templemore campaign which I am so passionate and determined about.
We now have had two full schools go through lessons at the swimming pool. That's such a positive but getting Friday night classes back up and running is still our main objective and we continue to work towards that.
Thanks for your continued support.

What a wonderful sight. Because of this campaign here are 2nd and 3rd class girls from Friends of St Joseph's PS just finished their first swimming lesson at Garda College Templemore . Most of these girls had never been in the swimming pool before which is very sad as most of them are aged between 9 and 10. However, it is great that they have this access for a number of weeks and What they will learn in these lessons will keep them a little safer in the water this summer.
Having access to additional swimming lessons would enhance their skills and prepare them better for challenges in the water. Friday evening swimming lessons in the Garda College have been the cornerstone of creating confident swimmers in this community for decades and this committee continues to advocate for these to be reinstated ASAP.

Here is my chat with Fran from Tipp FM where we talk about the Garda College Templemore 60th year anniversary, the swimming pool and the potential of building on our relationship between the college and the community.

The people of Templemore fought a long campaign to retain access to the pool at the Garda college. There were marches, protests and meetings with TD’s and we thought the issue had come to some resol

60 years in our town Garda College Templemore . We have supported each other whether that's fundraising, accommodation, catering etc. From the beginning the swimming pool was the biggest connection there was between the town and the college. Unfortunately besides a couple of hours a week for the schools, the college has stepped back from its role as provider of swimming and lifesaving classes particularly for children. It's not that there is anything wrong with the pool, it's seems the appetite from the college is just not there to support its own community.
As a town we demonstrated over a years ago to ask the college to step back into that important and valued role so that Friday night swimming classes could restart for children. They continue to say no.
Today they march up our town to mark those 60 years and the town have not been asked or included in the celebrations. Many will say that's not much to celebrate.

This is the next step in moving this campaign forward.

Another group of pupils from St. Joseph's Primary School Templemore enjoying another class in swimming instruction in Garda College Templemore today . Hopefully more children will get use of the pool in the near future.

Great to see another group of boys from St. Colmcilles Primary School at the Garda College Templemore swimming pool yesterday for their first of 6 classes. We know 6 classes isn't enough to learn water safety or how to swim but it's a great start for these boys. We hope that they will get more opportunities to utilise this fabulous swimming pool in the near future along with the rest of our local communities.
