Following on from our own Highlands adventure this summer - Just finished this amazing account of Ken Smith’s life in the Scottish wilderness. A mixture of beauty and the very real challenges nature can throw at us, but an invaluable story of how one man has lived on his own terms in this sublime landscape. Any Harvest yogis fancy reading it? My copy free to whomever would like to pick it up in class - just drop me a 🙏 below in the comments😉.

My lecture today is on the history of anatomy and the shifting relationship between viewing the body as mystical and/or mechanical (amongst many other things) during the early modern period. The earliest anatomists competed with long-held beliefs that the body was a divine entity and should not be tampered with - but exceptions were made for those considered as saints. So you could appeal to saints and their relics with special responsibilities - like St Lucy for eye complaints, or St Appollonia for toothache, and St John of God for cardiac issues. Of course for other matters of the heart - St Valentine, whose relics (partially) reside in Whitefriar St church in Dublin and where couples can have their wedding rings blessed ❤️❤️❤️ Happy Valentine’s!!!

Looking forward to our next mini-retreat this Saturday 15th Feb! A deep stretch exploring the sutra ‘Sthira-sukham asanam’ - the yoga posture is steady and comfortable. Our only guide from Pantanjali’s yoga sutras on the poses is that we should find steadiness, stability (and joy too!) in our physical practice. We’ll find this through calm and balanced pranayama, standing and balancing poses, finishing with a deep relaxation into savasana, and time for meditation at the very end. But we’ll also find time for our tea and protein bites too 😉🙏🧘🏻‍♀️🥰. Booking is through harvestyoga.ie on the timetable page😉. Pic: Sunrise off Gormanstown beach 6 Feb 2025.

Post-practice protein bites ready for the mini-retreat yogis today 😋 Fully booked today but upcoming dates in Feb open now ☺️🙏 🧘🏻‍♀️ We start with forming a deep connection to the breath before moving to a yin practice (with some active poses mixed in for variety), and closing with meditation. Today’s philosophical focus is pure and simple: the second sutra ‘Yoga citta vrtti nirodha’. It is the first definition we have of what yoga is: the stilling of the mind. After all that it will be time for tea (and treat!)
