Self care for Christmas.
Self care is a practice which, enhances our overall well-being.
This practice can and is often tended to in small amounts of time rather than trying to find hours. It may feel strange at first, even selfish. But, in time it becomes clear that without self care, we are very often running on half full or even, nearly empty.
While self care should ideally be part of our lives throughout the year, self care at Christmas is important.
Even if we have self care in place as a practice, sometimes during a stressful, busy or overwhelming period, “Aftercare “ in addition to self care is required. Think of self care and after care as the following;
You go to the gym to maintain or develop fitness. (Self care)You pull a muscle (despite being fit) you need that muscle tended to (aftercare)
Christmas can be the most wonderful time.
It can also be very stressful for many.
It can be wonderful family time.
It can also be very lonely for many.
It can be a time to reflect upon a wonderful year.
It can also be a time to miss those you lost.
Tips for self care
Be patient with yourself, don’t expect more than you are able for.
Let yourself feel your feelings, pushing them away often makes them shout louder.
Set your boundaries, what are you going to do, what is not for you.
Find time to create something (if this is something you enjoy)
Allow yourself turn off your phone.
