A DYING IRISH TRADITION!

This is Hogan's store and bar in the tiny Tipperary village of Grange, the proprietor is my cousin Josephine. Jo took over the business when her father Tom (my Dad's brother) passed away. Hogan's has been serving the local community for many years and although places like this once dotted the Irish countryside, it’s a traditional feature that's fast disappearing from Ireland's rural idyll. This kind of establishment is known as a ‘spirit grocery’ and until the arrival of supermarkets and grocery chain stores, every community in Ireland had one. It was common to have a pub with a grocery, hardware or other ancillary business all on the same premises. In some cases they were undertakers too!

So if you ever find yourself in South Tipperary, do drop in and see Josephine. Go through to the bar and order a pot of tea, a Guinness or a whiskey, pick up a little something from the shop for your journey and let's help keep this Irish tradition alive!

To find it on your GPS, the eircode (postcode/zipcode) E41 A2W5 will get you there. 🥰
