Thinking of all the students who received results today.
At 18, I think it's more common than not that you do Not know what you really want to do as a job for the rest of your life.
How can you truly know at 18 when your adult life is only beginning?
As someone who didn't get my first option I can look back now and say Thank God I didn't get it as I think I wouldn't have lasted long as a journalist being the nervous type of person that I am π
Instead, I did loads of jobs and courses, each slowly shaping me and giving me the knowledge and experience I really appreciate having now when stepping into the classroom as a teacher.
If you had told me at 17 I was going to be a teacher eventually, I would have laughed with the shock of it π
. I remember having to ask my friends each day of the leaving cert what exam we had each day π
And here is the thing, there are multiple intelligences; music smart, self-smart, people-smart, and so on. Everyone has their intelligence in some area, and it's about finding that and nurturing it.
It's not all about going to college. Sometimes, it's about doing apprenticeships or going to work and working your way up the ladder.
If you have a dream then work hard for it and go down whatever avenue you need to. If you haven't a clue then just go with the flow and just do your best.
