Tonight my eldest girl read to my youngest girl. For a moment in time, transgenerational dysfunction and trauma didn't stand a chance at seeping down through this DNA.

They say that transgenerational shame, pain and Trauma continues to seep down through the generations until someone is ready to feel it.

I silently thanked my own mother for being the one to hate the pain, but to feel it so that I wouldnt have to. She showed me how to own my pain even if I was angry that it had been passed to me and how to grow from the bedrock of it.

I just dont think she knew she showed me....but she did.

Parent with consciousness and in order to move forward, just for a moment,
Look back.
What do you see?
And what does it tell you?

Look back
So you can be present
And change the future

Love this, it resonates so much with me being mother to 3 girls. 💚🧡💙

When we teach daughters to be kind, to be loving, to be all encompassing with their acceptance of other people, we must be mindful not to imply that they should be passive.

It is 2022 and still the collective unconscious and conscious tendency to place females in delicate pretty ribbon, doesnt make them look prettier but can actually tie them down.

Teach your daughters to use their outrage.
Teach your daughters to feel their anger.
Teach your daughters to walk behind no one nor to follow a general consensus when their gut is screaming no.

But dont just teach her. Show her.

Show her how you delve into the foods you love without hesitating to consider what your body 'should' look like. Show her how you dance in the kitchen in bright light with the blinds up and Guns n Roses blaring. That your body, your heart, your mind aligns.
Show her how you challenge oppression. Show her how you action that challenge.
Show her how you mind your self. Show her that you own your mistakes and how you forgive your own mistakes.
Show her your kindness is compassionate but that you will NOT "be kind to unkind people for they need it most".

In fact, she herself, needs kindness more than the unkind person where it is assumed she has been hurt by them.

Raising three daughters, I know that all I need to do is lay the landscape, set the scene for growth by demonstrating how I live confidently outside borders and within my own personal boundaries. When I see those fresh footprints, I know they're paving way.

Sharing this review at the request of a client .....

“I attended Aisling for pregnancy reflexology throughout my pregnancy. I found that the reflexology sessions helped with my indigestion, my sleep and my fluid retention in my hands and feet. Aisling is a fountain of knowledge of all things pregnancy related and her calm approach meant that I left her sessions feeling more relaxed than when I walked in. As well as reflexology she offers pregnancy massage which was a very welcome treat at the end of my pregnancy. Would highly recommend!”

Let's talk SWELLING in Pregnancy
"I CAN SEE MY ANKLES AGAIN".......these are the words of my client last week who has been suffering with swelling for the last few weeks.
Reflexology in particular is so helpful in managing swelling in pregnancy.
It's totally normal to get some swelling in pregnancy, particularly in your legs, ankles, feet and hands.
It's often worse at the end of the day and further into your pregnancy.
Swelling that comes on gradually is not usually a problem for you or baby, but it certainly can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful.
If you notice a sudden increase in swelling this can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, a condition that needs medical attention, so contact your caregiver asap.
Here are my tops tips to help ease your swelling in pregnancy
TAKEAWAYS
✅ Reduce your sodium/salt intake - salt encourages your body to store water
✅ Reduce caffeine intake and increase water, keeping the body hydrated will encourage your body to hold onto less fluid
✅ Regularly rotate and move you ankles/wrists and flex your feet/hands to encourage fluid to keep moving throughout the body
✅ Wear loose comfortable clothes/footwear
✅ Soak tired swollen feet in a basin of cool water nightly
✅ Compression socks can really help
✅ Book in for a Reflexology or Massage session
Hope this helps. 🤞🥰

Hey!
Welcome to the first of my "LET'S TALK SERIES"
This weeks series it's all around PREGNANCY and what annoys us most. I'll give you a quick explanation and few TAKEAWAYS you can try today to get you on your way to better sleep. 😴🛌💤
"I ALWAYS SLEEP SO WELL AFTER MY SESSIONS"
This is what I hear most regularly from my clients.
Did you know Insomnia is one of the leading reasons women come to me in pregnancy?
For many women, sleep can be very disturbed during pregnancy. With physical discomfort, changing hormones, and the excitement and anxiety around becoming a mother, your sleep can really be affected. It's believed that at least 50 percent of pregnant women1 suffer from insomnia.
Sleep is an essential part of your ante natal care and if you’re struggling to sleep well during pregnancy, trust me, you’re not alone.
SO...WHAT CAN HELP YOUR SLEEP?
✅ Try to RELAX with meditation or breath work before turning off your light. Try Spotify for some Pregnancy Meditations or I highly recommend the Gentlebirth App
✅ Really prioritize getting OUTDOORS daily. Freshair and daylight are very important for the release of our sleep hormones
✅ Make sure you are not EATING to close to sleep time. If your body is trying hard to digest food while you are trying hard to sleep then your body cannot settle to sleep
.
✅ A WARM SHOWER just before hopping into bed will raise your body temperature and make your sleepy
✅ Make sure you are appropriately dressed for bed and your room is the right TEMPERATURE. Comfort is key!
✅ Supplements such as MAGNESIUM can be very helpful to sleep. I recommend , ALWAYS check with your GP before taking any supplements
✅ Consider trying REFLEXOLOGY or MASSAGE if your insomnia is becoming very problematic
Insomnia can be a real issue but hopefully some of today's tips will see you getting back to sleeping better soon.
Pop me a DM if you've any questions, always happy to help.

So.... relatable 😞🥱😢

Ive been thinking alot lately about parental burnout. I'm going to come at this from the maternal perspective without apology, because generally, that's where the load is. I am seeing more of this in therapy spaces and the guilt expressed needs to be further contextualized.

Lets take full stock of this. We are to work as though we dont have children. We are to have children as though we don't work. We are never not in demand. Stacked layer upon layer of requests for drinks, food, hugs, refereeing, shoe laces, forgotten tasks, homeworks, tv remote lost, he said this, she said that, she took my this she took my that, I don't want to go to bed, my triangles are not triangles, my hair isnt done. That never ends.

We cant have it be romanticised so much all the time. It's messy, tiring, and relentless. There are no guidelines and too much judgement.
Get in the car. We're late. We forgot something. Texts coming in. Calls coming in. Get that in the diary. Dont forget the dentist. Put the bins out. Add butter to lists. Mental note playdate at 3pm. Mam, she took the pink crayon from the case. Crying, tantrums, tears, buckets up on buckets of love that soften the edges of how hard it gets.

Letters from school for anything from one child to four children to how many children you have. Ballet, football, swimming, throw diesel in the car, throw kit kats around the car. Just. For. One. Moments. Peace.
The promise to bake/jewelry make/do art, that you wish you didn't promise because you're exhausted

An accidental headbutt that you can't complain about because it was an accident. But it hurts! A purposefully executed dig between siblings that you have to negotiate with the skills of a multi lingual interpreter all the while listening to the screaming as another child shouts that they need a bum wiped.

The laundry. The midnight panic because the kilt wont be dry. The playdates that need organising and parties that presents. The food shop, the financial worry, the future worry, the child we worry about the most, the relentless tap at our brains that there's something we missed, something has been forgotten or overlooked. Bathe them, nurture them, soothe them, feed them, heal them. All day long. All night long. Become so accustomed to sleep deprivation that you can get by easy on 4 hours. Or never get accustomed to sleep deprivation and live that every day.

Hear the well meaning advice to 'mind your mental health' and take a sharp breath. Because if there was a beat your heart could take for itself you'd sn**ch it.

Make dinner. Every day. Make it good or feel the guilt. Guilt. Guilt. Read the books. Make it sound epic even though your feet are twitching with the weight of your heart heavy in the heaviness of all you carry.

Talk to a friend/parent/boss over the phone. Forget words of the English language that were taught to you when you were 5. Ask yourself if you are legitimately losing your mind.

Work. In the crawl spaces of gaps available to you, work. Send the emails, get to the meetings. Sit in the traffic. Use your head. Think. Think. Think. On top of all that you think about and remember, you must think more. Remember more.

Then Love. Pure. Raw. Love.

The quiet moments that feed your soul with so much nourishment, it fills you for hours. And you use it as energy to get you through.

So, in this quiet moment I had with my 3 year old last Tuesday, following a morning that left us both exhausted, I thought to myself, how many other mothers right now, are feeling this same way.

My Tolerance cup was empty. And my Love cup was full. So it poured into my Tolerance.

So when your cup is empty, just hold them. And feel it fill you up. And if for your own personal reasons, you cant bring yourself to, then let yourself be held.

And let a few plates drop. You only need your cup

I am open for business on main street O'Brien Bridge (is there any other street🤔🤣) and look forward to welcoming clients new and old in the coming weeks.

Reflexology during pregnancy-what can it do for you? by Dr M***a (Obstetrician)

'Reflexology is one of the most powerful tools in my programme. You may find as you have more treatments, it helps to identify areas within your body that need cleansing. Many of my mothers find that their feet are indicators of their internal health and enjoy finding out how the reflex areas are improving with reflexology as the weeks go by.
As mothers progress through their pregnancies, they are quick to point out areas of tenderness in their feet that correspond to a physical weakness elsewhere, such as a tender sciatic nerve.Reflexology is very safe during pregnancy and is instrumental in helping mothers give birth at the optimum gestation of 40 weeks. At term, it can be effective ininitiating contractions and labour.

🔸️it can reduce and normalise high blood pressure.
🔸️Weekly treatments of 45 minutes can reduce high blood pressure.
Normailse low blood pressure
🔸️Eliminate oedema and reduce swelling in feet and ankles
🔸️Prevent heartburn
Improve sleep quality
🔸️Clear Headaches/migraines
🔸️Relieve varicose veins
🔸️Clear pelvic congestion
🔸️Improve lymphatic drainage
🔸️Aid digestion by boosting the pancreatic sectretionof digestive hormones-the pancreas can become sluggish during pregnancy due to the effect of the placental hormones
🔸️Oxygenate the baby by improving blood flow winthin your whole body, your uterus and the babys' placenta
🔸️Help you to carry your baby to full term
🔸️Can be used to initiate labour if you are overdue, tehreby reducing the need for medical induction at hospital
🔸️Intesify contractions during labour and shorten labour as a result"

This made me cry 😭😭

When you first have children they talk about the challenges of parenting....the struggles of a baby waking in the night,
the toddler who won’t stay in their bed, the cost of childcare, injuries from sports...

Having to take off work to pick them up from school when they don’t feel well, helping them with homework, a messy house, the never ending laundry, the cost to buy school clothes, packing their lunches....

You watch their eyes light up on Christmas morning....and try to soak in the magic of those moments.

You coach them in sports, rushing to practices and ballgames...and tote them all over the country to let them play the game they love...no matter how exhausting or expensive it becomes.

Life is just so busy that you rarely even stop to think what the end of those days look like.

In fact, it’s not really even something you can wrap your mind around.

You go into it thinking that 18-20 years sounds like a long time....

Then suddenly hours turn into days...days into months...and months into years.

That little person that used to crawl up next to you in bed and cuddle up to watch cartoons...suddenly becomes this young adult who hugs you in the hallway as they come and go.

And the chaos and laughter that used to echo throughout your home....gets filled with silence and solitude.

You’ve learned how to parent a child who needs you to care for and protect them....but have no clue how the whole “letting go” thing is supposed to work.

So you hold on as tight as you can...wondering how time passed so quickly...feeling guilty that you missed something....

Because even though you had 20 years.....it just somehow doesn’t seem like it was enough.

You ask yourself so many questions...

Did you teach them the right lessons?
Did you read them enough books as a child?
Spend enough time playing with them?
How many school parties did you have to miss?
Do they really know how much you love them?
What could I have done better as a parent?
....When it’s time for them to go, it all hits you like a ton of bricks.

Parenting is by far the most amazing experience of your life....that at times leaves you exhilarated....while others leave you heartbroken.

But one thing is certain.....it’s never enough time...💕

So for all the parents with young children...whose days are spent trying to figure out how to make it through the madness...
Exhausted day in and day out...

Soak. It. All. In.

Because one day....all those crazy days full of cartoons, snuggles, sleep overs, Christmas morning magic, ballgames, practices and late night dinners...

All come to an end.

And you’re left hoping that you did enough right, so that when they spread their wings....

They’ll fly...💕💕💕
