Exercise is essential for looking after our physical and mental health, but when the darker nights arrive, and temperatures drop, it can be harder to stay motivated to work out, especially outdoors.

Be sure to exercise safely where possible. Here are some tips for you this autumn & winter season :

- check the weather forecast and dress appropriately before going outside ; waterproofs, footwear, layers

- wear a hi-vi's vest / reflective clothing if you are outdoors after dark, even in well lit areas

- have an exercise buddy to help keep you accountable and motivated

- if you can't get outdoors, try a lass, join a gym or do a home workout
