➡️All specialities at UHK joined forces to mark Antibiotics Awareness Day yesterday, November 18th 📅. Colleagues from Nursing, Pharmacy, Microbiology, Surveillance, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Medicine, Gerontology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics were all represented. The main message was to promote the prudent use of antibiotics to fight the emergence of microbial resistance.

UHK was delighted to host Dr Aoife Fleming (Vice Head for Interprofessional Learning at UCC) and UCC Masters of Pharmacy Students, Éibhín Cronin and Emma Kearney, as well as a Pharmacy colleague from MTU Tralee, Dr Clara Heinrich, all of whom work in the specialist area of Antimicrobial Stewardship.

We were also honoured to have a visit from Dr Eamonn Shanahan, GP, who recently collaborated with a UCC-led initiative “Patient and Healthcare Staff Stories: Experience of Sepsis, Infection & Antimicrobial Resistance”.
Sincere thanks to everyone who supported the event and to the sponsors, Café Ballybunion, Pharmacy & Opticians Killarney and .ie
