6-12 (30) v Austin Stacks 7-09 (30)

The final group game didn’t disappoint as the Austin Stacks U14 girls travelled to Abbeydorney for a thrilling encounter that had everything – goals, grit, and a race against fading light.

Stacks came out flying, tackling tenaciously, linking up brilliantly and taking some fine scores, but Abbeydorney kept in touch with sharp finishing of their own. At the break, it was Stacks who held the edge: Abbeydorney 2-4 ; Austin Stacks 5-3.

The second half was a proper battle, end-to-end stuff with both teams giving it everything. Abbeydorney found another gear late on and edged ahead by three, but the Stacks girls weren’t ready to pack it in.

With the light fading fast, they dug deep, turned over possession, and worked a brilliant team goal to level it up.

This was a performance full of heart, grit, and no shortage of drama. Since the beginning of this competition, the Stacks girls have improved game after game, the coaches could not have asked for more and are extremely proud of the effort shown by each and everyone one of the girls tonight.

Well done to both teams for a cracking contest.

This was our final group game, we await the results of other games to determine where we finish in the table, and who our opposition will be in either the Shield or Plate final.

North Kerry U14 Girls League Austin Stacks 4-11 | Listowel Emmets 2-14

Tonight in Connolly Park, the Austin Stacks U14 girls delivered a stirring second-half performance to overcome a strong Listowel Emmets side in a thrilling North Kerry League encounter.

The first half was a cagey affair, with Listowel Emmets making full use of the wind advantage. Despite some promising passages of play from the home side, the visitors edged ahead, leading 1-11 to 1-5 at the break.

Inside the Stacks dressing room, there was no panic. The girls regrouped, fully aware of what was needed to turn the tide, and they duly delivered.

Sophie Ferriter was a calm and commanding presence between the posts, finding her range with pinpoint kickouts that set the tone for the second-half resurgence. The defensive unit tightened up considerably, restricting Listowel to just 1-3 after the break. Captain Shauna, along with Mary and Roisin, put in tireless shifts in the middle, covering every blade of grass in the Nuns Field and driving the team forward.

Up front, the forward line clicked into gear, producing a fluent and cohesive attacking display that yielded an impressive 3-6 in the second half. Their movement, support play, and finishing were top-class, reflecting the hard work put in on the training ground.

This was a performance full of heart, grit, and teamwork. The coaches could not have asked for more from their players, who showed great character and resilience to overturn the halftime deficit.

Credit to Listowel Emmets, who played their part in a fine, exciting game of football. Both teams can take pride in their efforts. Terrys Butchers Shop (thanks to Mike Dennehy for report & photos)
