I've been asked quite a lot recently to explain the meaning of the word 'somatic'.
It comes from the ancient Greek 'soma' meaning body. Essentially, any Somatic therapy aims at linking the mind and the body.
That link is often found in the world of feelings and emotions. We often feel emotions such as disappointment, anger, sadness, joy etc, and most of us are quite apt are recognising and naming those.
What we don't really recognise though is that a lot of physical ailments, pains, discomfort etc, are also manifestations of emotions. And rather than to spend time with them and explore them, we often try push them away, medicate or ignore them hoping they'll go away.
Part of the work I do in Somatic reclamation is offering those physical manifestations a space, and an opportunity to speak and be heard. In my experience, a powerful gateway to healing.
Get in touch if this spoke to you.
In kindness,
Hubert
