Most people know St Brigid as a saint.
Few know she was also a protector of home, family, and the quiet, everyday moments that shape our lives.
It’s said St Brigid believed holiness lived not just in prayer,
but in how we loved, how we showed up, and how we cared for one another, especially at home.
On St Brigid’s Day, I wanted to share something personal.
We Are Forever
I wish I could remember
the last time I held you in my arms,
instead of wishing away
those everyday charms.
I wish I could remember
the last time I looked you in the eyes,
instead of letting slip
those gorgeous goodbyes.
So I promise this.
From here on, I will remember everything.
Every jest and your very best,
every tear, every joke and boast,
every small and frightful fear.
I promise I will never forget
your perfect little smile,
your nose, your ears,
those dimples piled so high.
You are the greatest song my heart can sing
each time you walk by.
You are my heart and my soul
and even when my blood runs cold,
we will never say goodbye.
There will never be a last time.
I will be waiting in the stars
until we meet again.
Among our friends,
within our love,
we are forever in each other’s hearts.
This poem is about the past, the present, and the future.
It is about remembering to live now.
To cherish the small moments with our children,
our partners, our loved ones,
the moments that quietly make us who we are.
It is about the future too.
About remembering that those we love
are part of it.
Sometimes all it takes
is a phone call,
a cup of coffee,
a walk.
And it is about the past.
Those we have lost.
Those we have drifted from.
Using memory not just to look back,
but to love better here and now.
St Brigid reminds us that care begins at home,
and love is something we practise every day.
Because when we remember,
we are forever.
