For some, saying goodbye to 2025 will be hard.
Not because they want the year to stay,
but because of what is left behind in the whispers of it.

For those people, saying goodbye to this year
feels like loosening their hold on a hand they are not ready to let go of.
Not yet.

This year carries people they’ve lost, and leaving it feels like further separation; as if the year itself can keep them safe. As if staying here means keeping them closer.

At midnight, they will hesitate…
as though time were a doorway that might close too quickly.
They will want to linger on the threshold, not ready to step away from what this year still holds.
Certain dates are now landmarks. They mark where something changed,
where something ended,
where absence settled in.
This year taught them where loss lives - and how quietly it can stay - and moving on feels like a second goodbye. Because next year never met those they loved.
It never held them in the same way that this year did.

They know deep down that love doesn’t disappear
when the calendar turns, when the clock strikes midnight, when a new year begins.
But the heart is not careful with time: it simply aches for more of it.

And for now, their hearts are holding someone close.
By holding on to here
and holding on to now.

The death has occurred of Thomas Joseph (Joe) Walsh, Cruckawn House, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo and formerly of Cloonaughill, Co. Sligo, on 21st December, 2025, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Predeceased by his wife Maeve (October, 2012), parents Mike and Sadie and his brothers Sean, Gerard and Colm.

Joe will be sadly missed and deeply mourned by his family: Dearbhla (Sara & Jack), Alan (Jane, Cillian, Eimear, Aisling, Ruairí & Róisín), Caríosa (John) and Brian (Cathy, Luca, Danny & Sadie), his siblings Frank (Castlebar), Mary (Hinfey, Dunleer), Kieran (Navan) and Peter (Spain), brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, wonderful neighbours and many great friends.

May Joe Rest in Peace 🕊️

The death has occurred of Seán Brennan, Claremount Nursing Home, Claremorris and formerly of Eskragh, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo and Manchester, England on 15th December, 2025, peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff of Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.

Predeceased by his loving partner Kath, parents Tommy and Christine and his brother Billy.

Sadly missed and remembered with love by his brother Tommy, sister-in-law Kathleen, niece and god-daughter, Claire and partner, James; his nephew Kieran and wife Trish, his grand-nieces and grand-nephews: Molly & Harry; Paul, Laura and David, his relatives, kind neighbours and friends.

Predeceased by her husband John, parents James and Annie, brother Michael and her sister Peggy.

Sadly missed and remembered with love by her brother-in-law Joe (Finn), niece Caroline (Morley), nephew David (Finn), Tom, Eileen, grand-nephew Gary and grand-nieces Lisa and Emma, the Fitzgerald family and a wide circle of friends.
