My background into Yoga.
In November 2016 I was involved in a road traffic accident which resulted in 2 discs in my neck rupturing & compressing on my spinal cord causing significant weakness in my limbs, predominately in my right arm & hand.
In January 2017 I underwent disc fusion of the two discs where they were removed, and a cage installed. Although the operation was a success with reducing further damage to the spinal cord, I was left with permanent nerve damage in my right arm & hand, and I struggled with pain daily.
Yoga for me became a crucial part of my pain management. It improved my mobility, relieved tension and created calm within me, it generally benefited me both mentally & physically.
My daughter April (who is 8 years old) was diagnosed with Dyspraxia. Her struggles with her additional need were high levels of anxiety and difficulties with her core & motor skills. She would sometimes join me on my yoga sessions at home. Immediately I noticed improvement in her mood & motor skills, her emotional outbursts became less frequent, and she had more confidence in her own skin. When I made enquiries, I noticed that children’s yoga did not seem to be available within a studio setting in Waterford.
It was during the pandemic I completed a course with Peaceful Babes to teach yoga from ages 2-17years, primarily to create yoga sessions specifically with my daughter & her needs in mind. However, I realised the benefits of Children’s Yoga & Mindfulness is needed now more than ever for children within the Waterford community.
So here it is, ‘JoJo’s Yoga’ Yoga & Mindfulness classes uniquely designed for children.
