Ladies- a quick reminder-Cervical screening starts age 25, if normal a second smear 3 years later and if both are normal every 5 years after until age 60.
Cervical screening picks up early abnormalities which if treated prevent cancer in most cases.
If you are due your smear towards the end of 2025 the HSE are inviting you to attend early for a smear test with your GP practice anytime now as there is a large number scheduled for the end of the year and this will prevent delays.
A cervical screening test (previously known as a smear test) looks to see if you might be at greater risk of developing cervical cancer in the future. This is why it can be so effective in reducing the risk of cancer.
