When you just rest your knee after a period of knee pain, and then jump straight back into your normal actives that require the knee to handle lots of stress - you’re likely going to flare up your knee again

With extended rest, your quad muscle becomes extremely weak

And so you may try to strengthen your knee! BUT, the way you go about strengthening a weak & painful knee needs to be gradual and appropriate

Oftentimes what happens is clients are thrown into exercises that are TOO ADVANCED and it overloads the knee again

And the cycle continues..

Bad rehab is the number one reason you are still dealing with knee pain

The exercises shown above DO NOT directly influence how much stress your knee can handle

They *might* help simply because they are influencing the hip, and because they are avoiding the knee

Many therapists are afraid to directly challenge the knee out of fear of flaring the knee up

But, instead of avoiding, you need someone to develop a customised plan for you that will actually prepare your knee for the activities you wan to get back to!

So you can build knees that last a lifetime!

This is a very simple representation that can help you get started with your understanding of why your knee pain is persisting

Is it the victim? Taking all the stress / demand while the ankle & hip are doing too little?

Or is it the culprit? Where the knee is doing too little, and needs more direct work. Hip and ankle exercises likely won’t do much for you here

Of course, knee pain is much more complex than this..but often you need a simple starting point to begin making progress
