Offering Breath-based Yoga for Everyone, Louise guides her students through a meditative yoga practice with the emphasis on flowing, dynamic movement with the breath. Every class also includes some seated breathing practise or meditation whilst lying down. She has a keen interest in mental wellbeing, believing yoga to be a useful way of maintaining psychological and emotional wellness. She trained

as a teacher in the Viniyoga tradition, with Sadhana Mala but incorporates elements from Vinyasa yoga and Hatha yoga into her classes. Since moving to Ireland in September 2016, she shares her yoga practice in beautiful, peaceful County Kerry.

We are LOVING this bit of warmth down in South Kerry today! Imagine getting a whole 6 days of this in October?? With 3 delicious meals prepared for you every day, good company, beautiful outdoor spaces to relax and unwind. Oh and YOGA🎉

This year I’m returning to the beautiful Valle da Vida - tucked away in the mountains just outside Malaga, Spain. 6 days from September 30th to completely switch off and soak up the Spanish sun.

A typical day will include:
*a morning class to welcome the day as we watch the sun rise over the valley in front of us
*followed by breakfast on the verandah
*free time by the pool, perhaps a massage or time in the steam room
*a delicious, nutritious lunch and more free time to read, relax or take a trip to a local village
*a gentle yoga class to explore breath work, meditation, self massage and yoga nidra
*a slow paced, Spanish-style dinner together to round out the day.

Accommodation is either in the renovated cortijo or dotted around the site, glamping style (don’t worry you still have electricity tho!)

So we are swinging into summer in our community yoga classes in Ballinskelligs in June. Hopefully the weather will be a bit less autumnal by then🙄

We’ll be exploring sun salutations - but as you’ve never done them before! The over-arching theme of the month is how yoga supports brain health & we’ll explore a different aspect of that every week.

Why I think people ask me what type of yoga I do: They know yoga classes are really varied & they are worried about fitting in, keeping up, whether it’s for them.

Unfortunately no-one’s heard of the Viniyoga tradition 😂 & I’m still working on distilling it in a few words (see above 👆🏼)

What I loved about training this way, was the focus on a person’s energy - giving me an insight into the state of their nervous system. Plus a deep dive into the function of a pose or breathing practice - rather than simply learning sequences to regurgitate.

In my classes you won’t be working towards a “peak pose”. Instead I create classes that move you towards a more regulated energetic, or nervous system state. If you’re tired, you’ll feel more balanced & energised. If you’re anxious, you’ll feel more grounded & calm.

Sometimes we say “I’m tired” as if that’s the whole story.

But have you noticed? There are different kinds of tired:

Sleepy tired.
Physically tired.
A heavy mental tired.

And sometimes something more subtle, where one part of you feels tired while another part feels quietly energised.

In this week’s classes we took time to notice that.

Not to immediately move to fix it or change it. To start, we’re simply curious, as we pause between the movements.

Yoga often begins there, with just a question:

What is my energy like right now?

And whatever the answer is…
that’s the perfect place to start☺️

Moving between feeling grounded, connected to the earth AND feeling expansive helps us be ok with both. Knowing how to access both states helps deal with the uncertainty of uncertain times😏

I’ve been encouraging everyone in class to spend a couple of minutes every day focused on their breath with this bhavana - inh and feel a sense of opening, of lengthening in the back of the neck and expansiveness / exh and feel a sense of connection through your body to the support beneath you.
