The Westport Shop Local Promotion supported and promoted by Westport Chamber of Commerce has begun.
Shopping locally this Christmas season strengthens your community by supporting local economies, creating jobs, and increases community engagement. It is also more environmentally friendly by reducing transportation and packaging and can lead to better customer service and more personalised shopping experiences.
When you spend €20 or more in a participating shop you are entered into a draw to be in with the chance of winning wonderful prizes. Look out for the promotional posters in stores or ask the shop assistant if they are participating so you can receive your free entry.
Last Christmas there was an incredible 17,000 entries completed by shoppers and included in the winnings was a first prize of €1,000 worth of Westport Shopping Vouchers to spend at local businesses. In addition, a second prize of €500 worth of vouchers and a further eighteen prizes of up to €200 worth of vouchers and products were also given away. The winners were delighted that they received the vouchers and prizes ahead of the Christmas season and those from out of town expressed delight at the opportunity to return to Westport to spend their winnings. The initiative generated a lot of good will and a “feel good factor” with both customers and retailers in the run up to Christmas and really highlighted the value of shopping local.

The Westport Chamber are hosting a Breakfast Briefing on Wednesday 26th of November at 8.30 am in the Leeson Enterprise Centre,
with guest speakers who will give information on the roll out of the Auto-enrolment Pension Scheme.

The introduction of the Auto-Enrolment Retirement Savings Scheme, called My Future Fund, will start from 1 January 2026.
Auto-enrolment is a new pension savings scheme for certain employees who are not paying into a pension.
They will be automatically included in the scheme but can opt out after 6 months.
Under the scheme, the employee, employer, and Government all pay a certain amount into the employee’s pension fund.

Every product offered by Léan Candles is handmade with care by Melissa herself, including a variety of candles, wax melts, bath salts, roller oils, and pillow sprays. Melissa not only creates each product but also personally designs and develops the unique scents that define the brand.

The name "Léan" is deeply meaningful to Melissa, inspired by the Irish translation of her mother's name, which signifies "shining torch" or "ray of light." With this special meaning in mind, it was essential for Melissa that her business name reflects a personal connection. Drawing from Irish traditions and the stunning Irish landscape, Léan Candles features signature scents such as Imbolc, Mhathair, Bertra Beach, Draiocht, Maidin Gheal, and Ceann, alongside customised items created for special events.
Léan Candles are committed to creating products that prioritise both quality and health. All products are non-toxic, crafted with soy wax and organic essential oils. As an asthmatic and someone with allergies to perfumed candles, Melissa was driven to develop products that are safe, clean, and gentle on both the environment and her customers' health.
Melissa is a proud member of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCI) and has recently been shortlisted as a finalist in the Young Entrepreneur category of the Irish Micro Business Awards. We wish her the very best of luck in this exciting achievement.
