Notice how what’s being said is making you feel. Become familiar with any feelings of doubt, uncertainty, hesitation or confusion. Meet these feelings with self-compassion. Identify where they originate, or what/who has triggered them.

Remember that nobody has the right to make you doubt yourself. Remind yourself that it’s not you, it’s the other. Meet yourself with kindness, patience and compassion.

Only respond to the other when you feel steady and confident to do so.

Believe in and trust your own experience of what is really happening. Having a trusted someone to talk things over with is always helpful.

Peace is a familiar word to all of us. Yet it is more that a word. It is a way of being that guides our way of behaving, that is reflected in our everyday actions, thoughts and feelings.

Practice cultivating peace within and radiate it out to family, friends, community and beyond.

Peace begins with each of us ☮️

ℹ🌿SHRINKING THE INNER CRITIC IN COMPLEX PTSD | BY PETE WALKER

In my work with clients repetitively traumatized in childhood, I am continuously struck by how frequently the various thought processes of the inner critic trigger them into overwhelming emotional flashbacks.

This is because the PTSD-derived inner critic weds shame and self-hate about imperfection to fear of abandonment, and mercilessly drive the psyche with the entwined serpents of perfectionism and endangerment.

Recovering individuals must learn to recognize, confront and disidentify from the many inner critic processes that tumble them back in emotional time to the awful feelings of overwhelming fear, self-hate, hopelessness and self-disgust that were part and parcel of their original childhood abandonment.

I’ve always wanted, very much, to be that woman.
The old one, with the hair like silver that seems to radiate its very own source of light.
The one with the knowing smile that hints at humour ever present and a life that’s been full of belly laughter.
The woman with the deep lines in her weathered skin, lines etched out by adventure, by joy, by fear and by growth.
I imagined how I’d float rather than walk because I no longer bear the weight of the world on my shoulders and I marvelled at how my days would be full to the brim with resting and noticing the world around me.
I would not care for thoughts of guilt because by then I would have learned that resting is doing, and is very important indeed.
There I would be reading, gardening, eating food I had grown and passing my little nuggets of wisdom down, to anyone who wanted to listen.
The contented crone.
The final phase of the journey of womanity.
No chasing youth for me,
I will be languishing, loudly, in the joy of my age and my luck at having got so far.

I’ve always wanted, very much, to be that woman.
