Back bending has never come naturally to me. I was never able to do "the crab" (Yoga Wheel Pose) not even as a child and that's ok.

Fast forward through a back injury, chronic pain, bulging discs & a degenerated spine in my 40s & this is where I'm at now.

Working with the Yoga Wheel has and is definitely helping with my progress. It gives me a shape to mould my body around, a solid support to roll me in and out of postures with ease.

I may never be able to do a full Upward Facing Bow Pose but I'm ok with that. I do not have an agenda to achieve a particular shape. My aim is to work with my body, a slow progression, honoring my own capabilities, a gradual process of respect and curiosity.

A unity of body, mind and soul. Acceptance = inner peace ✌️💕✨

If you are interested in exploring your own capabilities using the Yoga Wheel please get in touch. We have weekly Yoga Wheel classes at the studio & our 50hr Yoga Wheel Teacher Training Course runs again in January 2026.

Peace, Love & Light 💜🙏

As we head towards the autumnal season, it is now that we can take time out to invest in cleansing, restoring & replenishing our energy. To focus on building up our stores in preparation for the colder months.

At Ashgrove, over the coming months we will be offering a selection of special workshops and extended classes to do just that.

These specialized events will take place on Thursday evenings commencing on the 4th September at 7:30pm with "Yin Yoga - Meridian Series". During this 90 minute class we will practice Yin Yoga Asana to stimulate the Kidney & Bladder meridians.

The kidneys are responsible for cleansing & purifying the blood sending waste fluids to the bladder to be stored and periodically eliminated.

As always you do not need to have any previous experience, all are welcome.

You can view & book all our events on our website www.ashgroveyoga.ie click on book online and then scroll down to the events section.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to seeing you soon 🍁🤎

My first time on the mat after a full week of illness.

My energy is still pretty low but it was time to reconnect with my body & create some much needed space for some gentle flow. Yin was not the practice for me today after being stagnant, resting for so long I needed gentle movement to reawaken the chi & get it flowing.

That's what Yoga is all about right? Learning to listen & honor what you need. To let go of the ego & reconnect with your soul. So for my first practice back I chose a grounded gentle wheel flow. My head is still very fuzzy so no inversions or deep folds just an invitation to open.

I'm still not back teaching until next week so my apologies to you all you lovely people for any inconvenience. For now I'm am practicing selfcare, giving myself the time I need to recuperate & restore my energy. And more importantly ensuring that I do not share this virus with you.

So again, I thank you for your patience and look forward to seeing all your happy faces next week.

Love, light & healing vibes
Tania 💚

Good Morning Beautiful Souls! I hope you are staying cosy on this wet & drizzly day.

This morning I was drawn to the Yin Side for my personal practice. I really felt like getting cosy, nourishing my body & surrendering to the elements. It has been a busy few weeks & sometimes as teachers we can forget to serve ourselves, so I decided to revisit one of my practices that was recorded over lock down.

This is the one I chose for this morning & as we are closed for a little break over the long weekend tomorrow, many of you might be missing our weekly Friday morning Yin class so I thought I would share this one with you.

If you don't have a bolster or blocks at home, grab whatever pillows, blankets or even a chair can be used for the forward folds, get yourself cosy, switch off the phone for just 1 hour & practice with me.

Have a fabulous long weekend break and a very Happy Easter Beautiful People.

Love & Light, Tania x

My Journey to Yoga

Tania Murphy - Yoga Teacher & Studio Owner Before yoga,I worked a full time desk job and ran 40km per week to stay in shape. All that sitting combined with all that running left my legs strong but my core weak; and one day, my back just gave up. After countless visits to specialists, I was diagnosed with a bulging disc and degeneration of the spine. Surgery was not an option, so I was sent home with prescription painkillers as the proposed solution. The chronic pain led to Fibromyalgia which meant more medicines, and less quality of life. I knew I had to find a solution for myself, and the only exercise that seemed viable was yoga. I booked myself into a weekly class and started to practice. Sometimes it wasn't easy, sometimes my back flared up, and many of the postures felt impossible. But the more I practiced, the stronger I became, the more open and less tense my body became. I felt less pain! Thanks to yoga, my bulging disc is gone and I’m off medication. I became a certified teacher in 2016 to share this healing practice with the world, and I’ve since continued my professional studies each year and have taught for over 1,500 hours. I also hold a Diploma in Ayurveda and Herbalism. I am a qualified Reiki Practionioner and a certified Yoga Trapeze® Teacher. I am also studying Aromatherapy, Organic Skin Care and Face Yoga. I teach yoga because it changed my life, my focus, my self-confidence, my body and my general sense of well-being. I teach yoga because I want to share those benefits with others. I want them to feel those same benefits. I want my students to feel more focused, more mindful of their own health and well-being, to become stronger, freer, more comfortable and confident in their own bodies. I look forward to sharing this practice with you. Much Love & Namaste
