Why do I practice EMDR? Why do we, as trauma informed therapists dedicate ourselves to this challenging, yet profoundly rewarding work? As, I reflect now as I break for lunch after a few engaging morning sessions.
I think it’s all for the profound, quiet moment when a client realizes that trauma's grip has finally loosened, and a sense of wholeness floods their system.
The true joy of being a therapist is witnessing the mind’s organic, innate healing process—the powerful, deep-seated shift that whispers: "I am safe now."
This isn't something I do to them; it's something their mind achieves.
It’s this silent miracle of re-scripting the past—not changing the facts of what happened, but changing the way the memory is stored—so that they aren’t just surviving, but can finally, fully live in the present.
This is more than a profession; it's a profound privilege.
