I'm a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and a Mindfulness Teacher of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).I work predominantly with Children, Adolescents & Parents and am trained in Youth Mindfulness.

Cancer hasn’t stopped during the pandemic and neither has the demand for services. The Irish Cancer Society relies heavily upon Daffodil Day so that they can be there for all those affected by cancer. By taking part, we make a real difference to thousands of cancer patients and their families. Today let’s do our part to support these services and help in Taking Back from Cancer.

From 6am today we return to a more normal way of being. It’s been a long road and for some, today is one filled with joy and relief, and for others there’s fear and anxiety. Just remember to make the changes that work for you, and re-enter the new ‘normal’ at your own pace, one step at a time.

As we mark World Children's Day November 20th 2021 hopefully we will see a better future for our children who have suffered so much over the past 2 years trying to understand and navigate their way through a World Pandemic. As adults, with fully matured functioning brains, we find it hard to understand what's happening in our world. Imagine trying to process it through the mind of a child!!
Let's do our best to support them.

Our final practice of the weekend is one called ‘The Mountain Meditation’. This practice allows us to bring to mind the strength and magnificence of a mountain and how it symbolises our own inner strength and magnificence. This is a powerful metaphor to remind us of our inner strength and ability to cope with the challenges of life. We often need to remind ourselves of our resilience and our ability to deal with difficulties.

Today our practice is Mindfulness of Sounds and focuses on the sounds of nature. This is a practice that you can bring into your daily life so that you become more aware of sounds around you. Try not to get caught up in identifying what you're hearing but just allowing yourself to listen without any judgements. It's also a practice that is helpful for kids and helps stabilise and regulate emotions, especially during challenging times.

Our first practice this weekend is a hand meditation. This is a practice you can try anywhere – sitting, standing or lying down. When thoughts overwhelm our minds we can bring ourselves back to a point of focus by using this strategy to help ground us in the present rather than ruminating over past events or worries about the future. Our thoughts will always take us away but we can gently bring ourselves back to a quieter space.
