Small toys can create BIG opportunities for connection, communication and learning ๐Ÿ’›

Doll play is more than โ€œjust playingโ€ โ€” it helps children build:
โœจ Language and conversation skills
โœจ Imagination and storytelling
โœจ Emotional understanding
โœจ Social interaction
โœจ Everyday life skills through routines

The best learning happens when children feel engaged, connected and free to explore play in their own way.

Try these simple doll play ideas at home ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ› Bath time play
Wash, dry and dress the doll while using simple words:
โ€œWash tummy!โ€ โ€œDry feet!โ€ โ€œHat on!โ€

๐Ÿ› Bedtime routine
Act out bedtime with furniture and dolls:
โ€œNight night.โ€ โ€œBlanket on.โ€ โ€œShhh baby sleeping.โ€

๐Ÿฝ Pretend mealtime
Feed dolls together and model everyday language:
โ€œMore juice?โ€ โ€œHot soup!โ€ โ€œYummy banana!โ€

๐Ÿš— Going out adventure
Use dolls and furniture to create little stories:
โ€œBaby sits in chair.โ€ โ€œLetโ€™s go shop!โ€ โ€œTeddy is tired.โ€

๐Ÿ’ฌ Follow your childโ€™s ideas
Instead of asking lots of questions, try commenting on what theyโ€™re doing:
โ€œYouโ€™re putting baby to bed.โ€
โ€œBaby is hiding!โ€
โ€œThat chair is so tiny!โ€

๐ŸŒฑ Add just one more word
If your child says โ€œbaby sleep,โ€ you can model:
โ€œBaby is sleeping.โ€
No pressure โ€” just natural language during play.

โค๏ธ Play doesnโ€™t need to look a certain way to be meaningful. Shared moments, connection and enjoyment are what matter most.

Farm animal play is full of opportunities for connection, communication and learning ๐Ÿท๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฅ

You donโ€™t need complicated toys or long activities โ€” simple, playful moments together help children build language, attention, confidence and interaction skills.

Try these easy farm play ideas ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿท 1. Animal sounds play
Make animal noises together:
โ€œmoo mooโ€
โ€œquack quackโ€
โ€œoink oinkโ€

Tip: copying sounds, actions and facial expressions helps support early communication and interaction skills.

๐Ÿ  2. Hide & find
Hide the animals inside the barns and open them together.

Try:
โ€œWhereโ€™s pig?โ€
โ€œOpen!โ€
โ€œThere it is!โ€

Tip: pausing before opening the door gives children time to anticipate, respond or communicate in their own way.

๐ŸŒˆ 3. Colour & counting fun
Match colours or count animals as you play.

Try:
โ€œRed barn.โ€
โ€œ2 ducks!โ€
โ€œMore blocks?โ€

Tip: keeping language short, playful and repetitive helps children understand and join in naturally.

The best play moments happen when adults slow down, follow the childโ€™s interests and enjoy the interaction together ๐Ÿ’›

Play is one of the most powerful ways to build connection and interaction with your child ๐Ÿ’™

When children feel safe, understood and engaged, communication grows naturally through shared moments of joy, curiosity and shared interests.

Here are play ideas to support interaction at home:

๐Ÿซง 1. Bubble Pause
Blow bubbles, then pause and wait expectantly before blowing more. This creates opportunities for your child to look, gesture, vocalise or communicate in their own way to continue the game.

๐Ÿš— 2. Copy My Play
Sit alongside your child and copy what theyโ€™re doing with toys, sounds or movements. Joining their play shows interest in their world and supports shared attention and connection.

๐ŸŽต 3. Readyโ€ฆ Steadyโ€ฆ GO!
Use repetitive games like rolling a ball, pushing a car, jumping or tickles. Pause before โ€œGO!โ€ to build anticipation, turn-taking and joyful interaction.

๐ŸŽฎ 4. Join Their Interests
Older children often connect best through their interests. Whether itโ€™s Minecraft, Lego, animals, drawing or gaming, follow their lead and show genuine curiosity rather than directing the interaction.

๐ŸŽฒ 5. Cooperative Challenges
Try activities where you work together towards a shared goal โ€” building a den, baking, scavenger hunts, escape-room style puzzles or collaborative board games. These naturally support communication, problem-solving and connection without pressure.

Remember: interaction is not about making children communicate in a certain way. It grows through feeling safe, valued and connected ๐Ÿ’ซ

Shape sorters can be more than just toys โ€” they can support connection, communication, problem-solving, and joyful play for children of all abilities. ๐Ÿ’›

Thereโ€™s no โ€œrightโ€ way to play. Some children may sort shapes, some may line them up, explore textures, dump them out, or enjoy opening and closing the lid โ€” all of these are meaningful ways to learn and interact. ๐ŸŒฑ

Through playful interaction, shape sorters can support:
โœจ Fine motor skills
โœจ Visual attention
โœจ Problem-solving
โœจ Early language and communication
โœจ Turn-taking and shared interaction
โœจ Sensory exploration

Here are 3 simple ways to use a shape sorter at home ๐Ÿ‘‡

โญ 1. Follow Your Childโ€™s Lead
Watch what interests your child and join their play.
If they enjoy putting shapes in and out, narrate what theyโ€™re doing:

๐Ÿ—ฃ โ€œIn!โ€
๐Ÿ—ฃ โ€œYou found the star!โ€
๐Ÿ—ฃ โ€œOpenโ€ฆ close!โ€

Following a childโ€™s interests supports engagement, connection, and communication.

๐ŸŽจ 2. Shape Hunt & Match
Pick one shape and look for similar shapes around the house:
โ€ข โ€œCan you find another circle?โ€
โ€ข โ€œThis plate is round like the circle!โ€

This builds:
โœ” Attention
โœ” Visual discrimination
โœ” Language development
โœ” Real-world connections

๐Ÿคฒ 3. Take Turns Together
Try rolling shapes to each other, passing pieces, or helping each other fit shapes into the sorter.

Use simple phrases like:
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œMy turn, your turnโ€
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œHelp?โ€
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œWe did it!โ€

Shared play helps build connection, communication, and confidence โ€” without pressure or expectations.

Remember: play should feel safe, enjoyable, and flexible. Children learn best when they feel connected, supported, and free to explore in their own way. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿฅ” More than just funโ€ฆ Potato Head is packed with opportunities for learning, play, and communication!

As parents play alongside their child, this classic toy becomes a powerful way to build communication, fine motor skills, creativity, and confidence. ๐Ÿ’›

โœจ Try these simple play ideas:
โ€ข Name body parts and describe where they go
โ€ข Talk about colors, emotions, and silly combinations
โ€ข Practice turn-taking and sharing pieces
โ€ข Encourage problem-solving by asking โ€œWhere does this piece fit?โ€
โ€ข Strengthen little hands through grasping, twisting, and placing pieces

๐Ÿ’ฌ Playing together also creates opportunities for connection:
โ€œCan you find the eyes?โ€
โ€œLetโ€™s make a funny face!โ€
โ€œWhat happens if we swap the ears and nose?โ€

Through play, children are learning language, coordination, imagination, and social skills โ€” all while having FUN. ๐ŸŽ‰

Play together. Learn together. Grow together. ๐ŸŒฑ

The move from preschool to primary school is one of the most significant milestones in a childโ€™s early years โ€” for children and parents alike.

Children donโ€™t arrive at primary school as blank slates. They bring with them the learning, confidence, relationships and skills theyโ€™ve already developed through their Early Years experience. This transition is about building on those strong foundations, not starting from scratch.

To support parents and childcare providers during this time, the ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€ ๐—–๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—น ( #๐—ก๐—ฃ๐—–) is offering ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ during the week of ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ.
