As you may have seen on my feed, my close friend Maya passed away last weekend from breast cancer. Her death hit me pretty hard and at first I didn’t know what to do with my feelings. But then I started to write, and write, and meditate, and write some more, and share my writing. And while the pain of the loss is not gone, this creative expression and the connections it created with others who loved Maya have really helped me to begin to process my grief.
When I myself was going through cancer, I read a lot about the topic of making loss matter, or creating meaning out of suffering. In an effort to do that, and to honor my friend’s memory, I will be offering a writing and meditation workshop for those who have lost a loved one on Sunday, April 3 from 12-1:30 EDT. The workshop will be intimate and interactive, with guided prompts and time for sharing and discussion. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/from-grief-to-gratitude-registration-299912043997
All proceeds from this event will be donated to , a non-profit that funds research to treat metastatic (Stage 4) breast cancer. This cause is important to me because one day, I pray that whoever is in Maya’s shoes will not meet the same tragic end as my beautiful friend.
If this is relevant to you please register as space is limited. And if you know someone who needs this, please pass along.
