🌙 Ramadan Kareem. The month of hospitality, generosity, and togetherness is here.

From gathering around the iftar table to sharing meals made with care, Ramadan is a time when tradition lives in every detail. The flavors we serve, the pieces we use, and the stories behind them.

This season, we proudly highlight handcrafted kitchen treasures and traditional foods made by our partners across Palestine, reflecting the wide geographical reach of our work and the richness of local heritage.

✨ Beita Women Development Society (Nablus), organic honey and fragrant za’atar rooted in generations of rural knowledge
✨ Handmade ceramics from Nisf Jubeil Ceramic (Nablus), inspired by Palestinian culture and landscape
✨ Our partners in Jenin, Canaan Palestine, producing rich organic olive oil that supports small-scale farmers
✨ Traditional embroidered table linens by Surif Women’s Cooperative in the hills of Hebron
✨ And from Bethlehem, our partners at Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative, creating beautifully carved olive-wood kitchen pieces

Thank you for celebrating Ramadan with purpose, supporting heritage, craftsmanship, and the spirit of giving across Palestine. ✨

Safeguarding cultural heritage through traditional dress restoration ✨

At Sunbula, we believe every stitch carries a story. That’s why we commissioned restoration specialist Tala Sandouka to carefully repair historic Palestinian dresses held by our partners in Bethlehem: the Arab Women’s Union and the Women’s Child Care Society.

Some of these garments date back over 150 years and feature embroidery patterns unique to the Bethlehem area. Over more than a century, the delicate materials were damaged by humidity and dust, and some of the embroidery stitches had come undone. Through Tala’s meticulous work, these dresses were brought back to life, almost like new, while preserving the stories of the women who created them and the communities they represent.

Today, seven beautifully restored dresses are displayed at these two Sunbula partners, giving local community members much-needed access to cultural treasures that are typically confined to museums and private collections. This accessibility also allows local embroiderers to draw inspiration from authentic traditional designs, supporting the continuity of these techniques in contemporary products.

By returning these garments to the communities they come from, we help strengthen cultural identity and create meaningful connections between younger generations and their heritage.

Swipe to see the restoration process and the before-and-after transformation.

Hand-carved shell earrings made from mother of pearl, carefully shaped and polished by skilled artisans in Bethlehem. Their natural shimmer and organic patterns make every pair one of a kind, light to wear and full of character.

Mother-of-pearl carving is a craft heritage of Bethlehem dating back to the 17th century, when Franciscan monks taught local artisans to create relics and souvenirs for pilgrims visiting the city.Today, this delicate art is kept alive by only a handful of highly skilled artisans from Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society, our partner in Bethlehem.

Wear a piece of living heritage, or gift it to someone special.

Here are our highlights from 2025: another year of immense hardship across Palestine, and also a year of resilience, creativity, and solidarity.
1. We enhanced craft-making skills for Bedouin women at the Noor Al-Qamar group, led by the Gaza designer Ibrahim Al-Muhtadi for jewelry-making and Shaden Abed Elal for silk-screening.
2. We worked with the restoration specialist Tala Sandouka to repair traditional dresses at our two Bethlehem partners - the Arab Women’s Union and Women’s Child Care Society - for the benefit of the community.
3. We advanced ‘The Book of Tahriri: 27 Essential Motifs and Techniques of Bethlehem Couching Embroidery’ through research, interviews, photography, and digital illustration. With the English manuscript complete, we’re now working on Arabic translation for a mid-2026 launch.
4. We began marketing the traditional baskets by Hares Women’s Society, our newest partner from the northern West Bank.
5. We resumed our Annual Holiday Bazaar after a two-year hiatus. Organized with the French Cultural Center in Jerusalem, it was supported by numerous volunteers who helped showcase and sell artisan products to the community.
6. We provided ongoing emergency support to Atfaluna Society and Sulafa Embroidery Centre throughout the year with our crowdfunding campaign.
From Gaza to the West Bank, our partner artisans continued working, teaching, restoring, and creating – protecting cultural heritage while sustaining their livelihoods. This work is only possible because of you. Thank you for standing with Sunbula and with Palestinian artisans and helping us reach more milestones in 2026. 🤍

From a single idea to a movement of resilience. 🌿

In 2008, a group of women from the village of Hares returned from a workshop in Ramallah with a vision: to create a space that was distinctly theirs. Facing checkpoints, roadblocks, and scarce employment, they didn't just wait for change, they built the Hares Women’s Society.

Today, these women are reviving the ancient art of Palestinian basket weaving, using olive branches and wheat stalks to weave their identity back into the land. It’s more than a craft; it’s a declaration of who they are and where they belong.

✨ Discover the full story of the Women of Hares and support their incredible work. The new collection of hand-woven basketry is available now on our online shop and at the shop in Sheikh Jarrah.
