תיקוני תופים Founded by the legendary master drummer Mamady Keïta in 1991, TTM Djembe Academy is the world’s leading entity in teaching traditional djembe and dunun rhythms. In February 2004, Danny Shturm and Pierre Chaillan opened the branch of Tam-Tam Mandingue Israel by giving weekly djembe classes, performance of drum and dance with the band “Tamtama” and organizing African master drumming workshops with: Mamady Keita, Sidiki Camara, Famoudou Konate, Adama Drame, Thomas Gueie, Harouna Dembele, M’bemba Bangoura, Fatoma Dembele, and African dance workshops with: Aissata “bebe” Youla, Louis Pierre Yonsian, Youssouf Koumbassa and Fanta Dembele. Djembe is the most popular music instrument in the world; it’s very “catchy” and raises intense emotions. Now, how to express our self at its best? Our program goes from initiation workshop like drum circles with rhythmic games, simple rhythms, songs and basic exercises in order to connect to each other and awaken our music skills. Once a week, we have regular group classes in Tel-Aviv (Tuesdays, 18:30 beginner, 20:30 advance) and in Netanya (Mondays, 19:30 beginner-intermediate) where we work deeper on the sounds of the drum, balance in our body, techniques, rhythms and developing our imagination threw the traditional drumming repertoire from West Africa taught by the masters of the djembe and dununs. During week-ends, we make 3 to 4 hours workshops for initiation to traditional drumming, professional techniques or special rhythms and solos according to specific ceremonies.
3 or 4 times a year, by collaboration with other teachers we organize week-end camps to work on the connection between drum and dance, we take a specific rhythm and learn its’ dunun patterns, djembe accompaniments, dance steps and solo techniques according to the dance. At the end of the workshop we do a big circle combining all the disciplines and levels with improvisations between drum and dance. As your “hands” progress so does your instrument. We provide professional drums of different qualities (from “light” to heavy master drums) and maintenance service according to your skills and requests (new skin, rope fixing and balancing wood, rubber on the foot for better protections) straps and bags to protect and carry your drum easily. Our program evolve according to TTM Djembe Academy, based on the repertoire created by Mamady Keita, organized into 8 levels in djembe and dununs so you can follow your progress effectively, supported by the “curriculum books” and internet site of “djembe club”, giving you the tools to practice and develop your inspiration on the djembe. During winter (end of December-January) we travel to Africa. More than a workshop, it’s a cultural exchange we do with our friends in Mali. From the city to the village we work on the djembe and the dance threw workshop with master drummers and dancers from the “national ballet” and the master Sidiki Camara. We participate also to traditional ceremonies in Bamako (capital of Mali) as well in the village of Sanankoroba in Wassolon. It is the occasion to experience the tradition from its’ ancient to modern aspects in a friendly and intense atmosphere, a trip we remember all our life…
