A Meaningful Milestone in Pain Medicine in Israel
On March 26, I performed the first implantation in Israel of the Bioventus StimRouter system, a Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) therapy designed to provide targeted relief for neuropathic pain by stimulating specific peripheral nerves.
The system was implanted on the radial nerve of a female patient suffering from neuropathic pain following a nerve injury to her dominant hand.
Prior to this procedure, the patient had undergone multiple treatments, none of which provided meaningful relief. Because of severe chronic pain, she was unable to work and required daily opioid pain medication.
The procedure was completed successfully, with real-time remote support from medical teams in the United States, together with the support of Sigma Health Care, the local distributor of the technology in Israel.
Already at this early stage, the patient reports approximately a 70% reduction in pain, without the need for opioid medication and relying only on over-the-counter pain relievers.
This achievement represents an important professional milestone and was made possible thanks to the strong support of the leadership at HaSharon Hospital, both in enabling this procedure and in their ongoing commitment to advancing the work of the Pain Clinic.

ב-26 במרץ ביצעתי, לראשונה בישראל, השתלה של מערכת Bioventus StimRouter — מערכת לגירוי עצבי היקפי (PNS) המיועדת להקלת כאב נוירופטי באמצעות גירוי ממוקד של עצבים פריפריים.
המערכת הושתלה בסמוך לעצב הרדיאלי אצל מטופלת שסבלה מכאב נוירופטי בעקבות פגיעה עצבית ביד הדומיננטית.
לפני ההליך עברה המטופלת מגוון טיפולים, אך אף אחד מהם לא הביא להקלה משמעותית. בשל כאב כרוני חמור, היא לא הייתה מסוגלת לעבוד ונזקקה לשימוש יומי במשככי כאבים אופיאטיים.
ההליך בוצע בהצלחה, תוך תמיכה מרחוק בזמן אמת של צוותים רפואיים מארצות הברית, לצד סיוע של Sigma Health Care, משווקת הטכנולוגיה בישראל.
כבר בשלב מוקדם זה מדווחת המטופלת על ירידה של כ-70% בעוצמת הכאב, ללא צורך באופיאטים, ותוך שימוש במשככי כאב ללא מרשם בלבד.
מדובר בציון דרך מקצועי חשוב, שהתאפשר בזכות התמיכתה המשמעותית של הנהלת בית חולים השרון — הן באישור וקידום ההליך והן בתמיכתה המתמשכת בפעילות מרפאת הכאב.
