⚠️ Update on University of Haifa Amid Security Situation:

Due to the current security situation in Israel, we have moved all classes and academic activities online. Since Sunday, all in-person lectures, labs, and campus events are paused until further notice.

The University has also activated 24/7 emotional and academic support services to help students and staff during this challenging time.

We stand in solidarity with our partners, students, and faculty at University of Haifa. Their safety and resilience remain our top priorities as they continue their important work and studies, even in the darkest moments.

May we only know peaceful days ahead!

Now it’s official: ultra processed foods can lead to Dementia 🥪🍟
New research led by Prof. Galit Weinstein from the University of Haifa’s School of Public Health, in collaboration with Boston University, reveals that the more ultra-processed food people ate in midlife, the higher their risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease later on 🧠
Each additional daily serving was linked to a 13% higher risk; Eating 10 or more servings a day is linked to nearly 3 times the risk of Alzheimer’s.
📌Check out the link in the first comment to read the full article.

This research goes far beyond changing what we choose to eat: it flags the need for new health and nutrition policies on both local and global levels.

As part of our master's degree studies at the School of Public Health at the University of Haifa, we had last week a powerful and inspiring session, within our course on interventions, support, and care management for people living with obesity. We had the privilege of welcoming Lia Mashiach, the Israeli patient representative of the European Coalition for People Living with Obesity (ECPO).
In a moving and insightful conversation, Lia shared her lived experience and offered a deeply personal perspective on the patient’s journey.
Together, we explored key issues such as:

- Weight-related stigma in healthcare and society
- The roles of healthcare providers and system administrators
- The importance of patient-centered care and patient-oriented research
- The need to listen to and include patients in shaping health policies and practices

This special course summary session was open, honest, and profoundly meaningful, leaving a lasting impression on all of us.

What if we could predict PTSD before it erupts?🤔

A groundbreaking study led by Dr. Ziv Ben-Zion from the University of Haifa’s School of Public Health, in collaboration with Yale university, shows it’s possible. By analyzing brain scans of 162 trauma survivors just one month after the traumatic event, his team identified distinct brain activity patterns and successfully predicted who would recover, and who was at risk of long-term PTSD.

Our Story

Join the next generation of global public health leaders! The University of Haifa’s International Master’s Program in Health Systems Administration and Global Health Leadership is dedicated to providing students with a strong foundation from which to critically examine current global health challenges. The next generation of health care leaders will need to understand the multifaceted nature of society and how it relates to public health issues. They will also need to have sophisticated leadership skills to serve an ever more complex society, and to manage cross-cutting, multi-sectoral, top-down and bottom-up comprehensive programs, within and beyond the health services. In an increasingly integrated world marked by growing disparity, public health leaders will need to be aware of how global and national forces affect health within and between national borders. The Global Health Leadership and Administration program nurtures high levels of sophistication, excellent communication skills, and a deep knowledge of public health and global health, as well as prepares future practitioners and researchers for leadership roles in settings across the globe. The one-year program is taught in English over three consecutive semesters from October through September. Students have the option of completing a thesis at no additional cost, which may take an additional year of study either in Haifa or in their home country.
