Facing Keratoconus is Dynamic

In this patient, PMMA intracorneal ring segments (ICRS) implanted in the right eye improved vision and maintained functional sight for many years—remaining better than the left eye, which underwent keratoplasty and additional surgeries, yet still ended with compromised vision.

After 22 years of benefit, one PMMA segment extruded, and when the effect of the remaining segment declined, CAIRS (corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments) provided a new opportunity to help preserve vision.

Keratoconus management is a dynamic journey, where different technologies over time can complement each other to protect vision and delay more invasive procedures

I’m honored to share that I’ve been invited back to 🇮🇹 Italy—where I completed my medical studies—to present my experiences on intrastromal corneal rings (ICRS) and CAIRS at the Italian National Congress of Ophthalmology.

It feels like a true full-circle moment, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my dear friends Marco Lombardo and Cosimo Mazzotta who made this invitation possible and with whom I shared a session on . They also organized for me an Interview in an Italian TV.

Inspiring experience at WKC2 – the 2nd World Keratoconus Congress, organized by the International Keratoconus Society, which I am proud to have co-founded.

With nearly 250 participants from over 50 countries, the congress brought together leading experts, emerging voices, and passionate clinicians dedicated to improving the care of patients with keratoconus.

I had the privilege of directing a course on Intracorneal Ring Segments (ICRS) and sharing insights through presentations and panels . The atmosphere of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation was truly energizing.

Grateful to all who attended and contributed to the success of this global event. Looking forward to seeing you all at WKC3 in Florence, April 2026

Grateful to have led a case-based expert panel on keratoconus at the joint congress of the International Keratoconus Society (IKS) and the Krasnov Institute in Moscow.

It was a pleasure to discuss real-world complexities and evolving treatment strategies in keratoconus alongside an inspiring group of international colleagues.

Looking forward to continuing the conversation at the 2nd World Keratoconus Congress (WKC2) in Athens, June 12–14, 2025 — a global gathering of minds shaping the future of corneal care.

מאמר שלנו שפורסם במגזין הבינלאומי לקרטוקונוס מראה : אי-אבחון מוקדם של קרטוקונוס עלול להוביל להחמרה בלתי הפיכה בראייה, במיוחד בקרב ילדים עם תסמונת דאון, הנמצאים בסיכון גבוה להתקדמות מהירה של המחלה. שילוב של קרנית דקה, נטייה לשפשוף עיניים וקושי באבחון מוקדם הופכים אוכלוסייה זו לפגיעה במיוחד. עם זאת, הצורך באבחון מוקדם חיוני גם עבור האוכלוסייה הכללית, שכן גילוי מאוחר מגביל את אפשרויות הטיפול.

חשוב להדגיש כי קרקטוקונוס מתפתח גם בקרב ילדים ובני נוער ללא תסמונת דאון, ולכן אבחון מוקדם חיוני לכלל האוכלוסייה. ככל שהמחלה מאובחנת בשלב מוקדם יותר, כך גדלים הסיכויים למנוע הידרדרות משמעותית בראייה.
