Every emotion play a role in our lives and each feeling has its wisdom. What does disappointment have to teach us? Maybe that we’re more passionate about something than we thought? Or that we need to try harder and be focused? Or that it’s time to let go and accept that we can’t control everything?

In Taoism, disappointments are recognized as opportunities for growth and learning. It suggests that disappointments can be transformed into opportunities for self-reflection, acceptance, and ultimately, a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all things.
Chinese medicine views disappointments as imbalances in the liver and heart energy channels, which are responsible for the smooth flow of energy and maintaining emotional stability.

Shiatsu therapy takes into account the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. By addressing the physical and energetic imbalances associated with disappointment, it can help us release blocked emotions, restore balance, and promote a sense of overall well-being.

“Pain is often a sign that something has to change” Mark Nepo
When we experience pain in our bodies and mind as individuals, in our lives as collective, it’s telling us: something different needs to be done! In Chinese medicine pain is linked to stagnation. It refers to the blockage of the body’s vital energy, known as Qi, and the free flow of blood and other bodily fluids.

It can occur due to various factors, such as emotional stress, physical trauma, or lifestyle imbalances.

How can we make it better? We move! Movement plays a crucial role in preventing and alleviating stagnation within the body. Exercises like stretching, walking, or engaging in activities like yoga or Qi Gong can help maintain the proper flow of energy throughout the body and preventing stagnation.

“I have a gut feeling” an expression we’ve all heard and some of us probably used many times in relation to an event or a person in our lives. But when was the last time we used it to understand ourselves and what’s happening inside our body and mind?

The stomach is one of the most sensitive areas in our body, with over 500 million neurons in the guts, science has been calling it ‘second brain’. We all know how it feels in our stomach when we’re excited or nervous and probably still remember how many times we ran to the restroom before a big event 😅
What we feed it, it feeds us back!

It’s utmost importance to keep our stomach healthy and balanced. Pay attention to what you’re feeding it, not just food wise but also feelings and thoughts. Let’s not keep our feelings stored inside, it can rattle the balance in our system and damage the flow of energy in our bodies.

How often do we go to sleep and wake up feeling more tired? Or we go into bed and it takes us a long time to fall asleep?

We spend third of our lives in bed and It’s not in vain. Sleep restores our energy and repairs our bodies. During our deep sleep period we also process 25% of our emotions. It’s like going to a therapist for free 🙂

So, what can help us sleep better?
1. make sure your bedroom is dark. Artificial light disturbs our sleep.
2. keep your room cool (temperature around 17 c) to have a continuous sleep.
3. drink a calming herbal tea like lavender or camomile.
Finally, if you can’t sleep, try putting your finger on the middle between your eyebrows for a minute or two at least. It has a calming effect.

Shiatsu has also a wonderful affect when it comes to sleeping disorders.

Taking a deep breath is the first thing we do when we’re out of our mother’s womb. It is so necessary and essential for our being and wellbeing.
Yet, when we grow, we often forget to breath and our breathing becomes shallow. When we experience stress or anxiety, our breath becomes even more shallow and faster signaling to our mind we’re in danger.

One of the tactics to improve our wellbeing in general and calm our raging heart in case of stress is called ‘Box breathing’. It goes like this: inhale (from the nose!) to the belly for the count of 4, hold it for 4, exhale for 4 and then hold your breath again for the count of 4. Repeat for a couple of minutes.

So simple yet so effective and It can be done anywhere. It doesn’t take much to take of ourselves.

Our body communicates with us all the time. Sends us messages that can reflect how we’re doing inside out. All we have to do is listen. Pay attention.
Feeling restless, changes in our sleep, tension in our muscles…some examples of many things that can tell us it’s time to ask: How am I doing? Body mind and spirit?

Research shows that 70% of people going to see a doctor, didn’t really need to (unless you’re experiencing new kind of pain or having a medical emergency of course).
Let’s not wait till we can’t tolerate the pain anymore to ask what’s going on. We should check on ourselves from time to time and take care of our body/mind/spirit regularly.
Shiatsu therapy can be one of these ways to take care of ourselves.

Facing growth, doing new things for the first time, can be scary even terrifying sometimes.
It might feel like a big giant has grabbed us and is stopping us from moving…making us feel anxious and drained from fighting this force.

Small things can give us the strength and energy we need to take small steps towards our new destination.
Things like taking a few
deep breaths or stoping for five minutes and going for a stroll.

Shiatsu can also be a way to calm our mind and relax our body. A tool to quiet our anxious heart and recharge.

“In Chinese medicine, who we are determines what is most beneficial for us to eat. And what we eat is considered to affect the expression of who we are. Both food and people are understood within the language of Yin-Yang and Five Phases . Foods are selected on the basis of their correspondence with individual patterns, modified by the climate, the season, and acute illness. People who are cold and dry need warm, moisturizing food; people who are hot and damp need cool, drying food; people with congestion need decongesting food; and people who are depleted need replenishing food.” Between Heaven And Earth
