What happens when trauma and q***r identity collide?

What are the prices of being unable to be honest in our relationships?

What role does our past play in who we are today?

The film "Flee" (2021) follows the story of Amin Nawabi, who is dealing with a painful secret that he hid for 20 years - One that threatens to ruin the life he built for himself and his fiance. Through animation combined with pieces of archive video, he tells to director Jonas Fuhr Rasmuss the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan, to his current life in Denmark.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021, and won more than 20 awards since.

On Tuesday November 22nd, 20:30, we'll meet in the Open House (Shmuel HaNagid 1, 4th floor) to watch the film and discuss identity, alienation, trauma and recovery.

In light of the Trans Awareness Week, we are creating in the Open house - a collection of reasons and reminders that in this difficult world, we're still here, and choose to stay here:
אני עדיין כאן - I'm still here - انا ضايل/ة هين.

It can be a line from a song, a photo of your cat, a concert you *have* to see, or just a really good cup of tea. Anchor points and footholds.
We would love you all to share your own anchor points and reminders with us - in picture or in text. Send us any that comes to mind, via email: digital@joh.org.il .

Additionally, we will be printing stickers of "I'm still here" with trans flag colours, and would love to have your help spreading them throughout the city.

What is so q***r about horror films?

What is the connection between vampires, sexuality and gender?

What makes one the “monster” in the story, and who gets to makes the decision?

These questions and many others will be discussed in the upcoming movie night, after watching a q***r vampire film with the appropriate spooky vibe.

For Spooktober and especially the upcoming Halloween. 👻

Carmilla (2020) is an adaptation of the classic 1872 Gothic novella, which tells the story of a young woman named Lara, who lives in complete isolation with her strict father and governess, Miss Fontaine. When a carriage accident occurs in the area, the girl in the carriage is brought to the family home to recover.

We will meet at the Open House (1 Shmuel Hanagid, 4th floor), on Tuesday 25.10, 20:00, to watch the film, and discuss q***r sexuality, monster narratives, what scares whom, and why. 🕸
