Hadassah Johanna Hazan - Therapist - Clinical MSW

Hadassah Johanna Hazan - Therapist - Clinical MSW LCMSW specialising in attachment & relational trauma, sexual trauma, self esteem and body image

I specialise in working with attachment and relational issues (disrupted attachment in childhood, sexual trauma (both from a long time ago and more recent), and the plethora of reasons people can struggle with self-love, self-acceptance and connecting to others. I have worked for nearly a decade in the field of eating disorder and body image difficulties, and also with people struggling with aspects of their identity such as sexuality, religious or spiritual shifts and major life transitions. I love and utilise both Narrative Therapy and IFS, as well as tools from CBT and DBT, however I believe the most powerful interventions come from authentic human connection and approach treatment to each of my clients individually. I have previously worked as a therapist at Milam, working with family systems affected by serious mental illness; and as Assistant Director of Mental Health at Jewessence, a residential program for young women from Ultra Orthodox Jewish homes who are overcoming emotional and mental health challenges. I am a founding board member of the AZ House - residential recovery facility in Jerusalem

I’m open minded, approachable and creative in my practice and I enjoy working with diverse populations, though mainly work with women. I have worked with clients ranging in age from 15 to 71, from a variety of backgrounds.

Hey colleagues/ friends ! I hope you’re all well ❤️

I wrote an article about why a relational approach to therapy is really helpful when treating eating disorders.

Often people approach me for supervision/ coaching to help with clients they have with EDs, and I also sometimes run trainings for clinicians and institutions to better understand them. During these training workshops, I offer tips on good practice in regards to interacting with people who are struggling with eating disorders.
This article is a reflection on some of what I include when I train or coach people - as I believe so strongly that it is very often the best approach.

I really hope it’s relevant and possibly useful for some of you.

This piece traces the evolution of relational therapy and shows why its emphasis on attunement, authenticity, and connection is especially effective in treating eating disorders. It reveals how the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a corrective emot

I say this to my clients, trying to help them lean into it; to use the discomfort of the food noise to help them - to see it as a sign that something in their system needs some love and light. To breathe through the pain of it and to try to identify what really needs attention. Seeing it so articulately written is wonderful!

Our Story

I am a therapist, coach and educator specialising in supporting vulnerable young adults, adolescents and women. I'm a qualified nutritional counsellor and lifestyle coach, which further supports the work I do with people suffering from eating and food disorders. I have worked considerably with people suffering from: Addictions Eating Disorders Sexuality Issues Identity Confusion Transitioning from a secular life to religious life and vice versa Depression Anxiety Low Self Esteem Blockages at Work/ Career and Study Based As a qualified, nutritional counsellor, I offer meal planning advice, as well as therapeutic conversations to help overcome the disruptive voices that arise when someone is tackling food issues. I explore current nutrition and dietary behaviours with my clients, identifying areas that could benefit from change. Together, we identify key goals and I provide the necessary support required to achieve them. Any actions we implement are designed to be a guide for life, so that my clients can live flexibly and obsession free, whilst maintaining a balanced diet and healthy weight. I run creative workshops which explore issues related to identity, community, self exploration and renewal. I also work/ have worked as an educator and facilitator for Jewessence, Midrashet Rachel, Taglit Birthright, UJS Hillel and JLE London. www.johannahazan.com
