How many hours did you work on your year-end fundraising appeal? How many rounds of edits did it go thru? How much stress did it cause you? Now I'd like to know: Did you spend just as much- if not more!- time on your thank you letter? Because if not, you're doing it wrong. Why is it so hard for orgs to say a proper thank you?! Great and memorable gratitude boosts retention and lifetime value of donor. So yes, the appeal matters but the thank you matters just as much if not more.

Why is it so hard to say thank you? It really shouldn't be. Gratitude is important to strong relationships - and that's what you want!

A lot of times orgs will name buildings and the like after major donors. After all, they gave the money to build it so they should get the credit. But sometimes a building should be named after the right person, not necessarily the person with the deepest pockets. I highly suggest you watch this video. I know there's a chase after big donations right now in our sector. But sometimes the best people aren't the richest.
