• SPONSORING MEDICAL SIMULATION WORKSHOPS
The objective of these workshops is to improve the communication between doctors on the one hand and patients and their families on the other. The IASF simulation centre supports Palestinian and Israeli doctors alike and is in partnership with the simulation centre in the Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv.
• FUNDING EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
The IASF gra
nts over 20 educational scholarships to university students in return for 4 weekly hours of work in various hospitals within Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The selected students are from various academic programs including but not limited to the fields of medicine. The students’ work is specific to hospital departments that serve terminally ill children and children hospitalized for prolonged periods of time. The main objective of the students’ work is to provide education and entertainment for the young patients and their families. The hospitals partaking in this program include Augusta Victoria in East-Jerusalem, Hadassah Ein-Karem in West-Jerusalem, and Soroka in Ber-Sheva.
• GRANTING THE BARBARA WOODARD FUND IN MEMORY OF IBRAHIM SAADI AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA CARVER COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
This annual scholarship program is intended to support medical students at the UI Carver College of Medicine, USA, which is the college of medicine that the late Dr. Ibrahim Saadi attended. Candidates for this scholarship are medical students in need of financial support who are willing to commit to a project lasting at least four weeks where help is given to those who cannot afford medical care, preferably in Israel or Palestine.
• ENHANCING HOSPITALIZATION CONDITIONS FOR LONG-TERM PATIENTS
The department for terminally ill children at the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East-Jerusalem benefits form a media centre established by the IASF. The media centre includes internet services, cable and televisions to entertain the young patients and their parents. Hadassah Ein-Karem Hospital in West-Jerusalem has a library developed by the IASF. This library is the only resource in the hospital for Arabic books to serve the Arab patients in the otherwise Hebrew speaking hospital environment. The Soroka Hospital in Ber-Sheva benefits from an educational program established by the IASF. The educational program is developed for children hospitalized for prolonged periods of time and is delivered by teachers in training.
• OFFERING AN ANNUAL AWARD FOR HUMANITARIAN CONTRIBUTION
The award recognizes humanitarian contribution in the field of medicine. Candidates for the award are assessed by criteria established by the IASF board of directors. The award ceremony includes presentations by innovators and leaders in the medical field. FOR DONATIONS:
