A Wheelchair and a Wedding: One Grandfather’s Journey of Love
Smooth Journey for a Simcha

Traveling internationally for seniors doesn’t come without its challenges, but any accommodations that make the journey smoother and more comfortable can make a world of difference. Such was the case for Michaël Eitje, 85, who recently traveled from his home in the Netherlands to Israel for his grandson’s wedding.

Immediately upon landing at Ben Gurion Airport in May, Michaël received a Yad Sarah wheelchair that he’d use for the duration of his stay for the simcha.

The family stayed in Jerusalem at the Inbal Hotel, which had arranged the Yad Sarah loan for him. With the wheelchair, Michaël was able to attend the wedding in Judean Hills along with surrounding events without added stress in and around Jerusalem’s rolling streets. This included the aufruf on the Shabbat before the nuptials in the Yemin Moshe neighborhood and Park HaMesila - The Train Track Park - for the Seven Blessings (“Sheva Brachot”).

“It was so special having my grandfather at my aufruf and wedding, all the way from Amsterdam,” said Michaël’s grandson Uriel Weisz. “Yad Sarah made the process so easy and seamless, and the wheelchair we arranged through them was such good quality-it really let him enjoy every moment with us.”
