Essential Oils from the Holyland
Aroma is the scent, the way the oils affect us when we absorb them into our system via their aroma. Therapy is the treatment, the way the oils affect us when we absorb them into our system through our skin. Scents affects our emotions, we identify through scent feelings that are deep within us, and we also smell fear so the right scent can help us dispel our fears, anxieties and stresses. Scents can also stimulate through our senses the feeling of confidence and give us the push we need to progress and strive. Aromatherapy and the bible is very connected. In the Holy Temple of Jerusalem the high priest (the Cohen) was the only one authorised to use the oil. In the bible the word oil was always olive oil. Later the prophets and kings were also allowed. The high priest used to anoint kings, prophets, priests, and Temple articles. The olive oil was enhanced with essential oils such as Myrrh, Myrtle and Cinnamon. The holy anointing oil described in Exodus 30:22-25. The Land of Israel is known and the land of milk and honey, and for its seven species. These are: olives, grapes, wheat, barley, figs, dates and pomegranates. Olive trees were abundant in biblical times in Israel and today they are still growing on the plains and in her beautiful hills, from the Galilee to Samaria and the Judean Dessert. In Israel we pray for the coming of the Messiah, which means the "anointed one".
One of the most beautiful legacies we have on this earth is the amazing trees we see and take for granted. Planting long-living trees such as Olive, Pine, Cedar or Acacia is a gift for the next generations, just like the old trees we see today planted generations back for our pleasure.
A parable from the Talmud: One day a righteous miracle worker, saw an old man planting a carob tree. Knowing that a carob tree took 70 years to bear fruit and that therefore the old man would not live to see the results of his labor, he asked why he was planting a tree whose fruits he would never enjoy. ‘Carob trees were here when I was born, planted by my father and his father,’ answered the old man. ‘Now I plant trees for the enjoyment of my children and their children’s children.’” (Talmud Ta’anit 23a)
