Did you know that your leg muscles actually work harder going down stairs than they do going up?
It's because of eccentric muscle contractions, meaning that going down stairs, your thigh muscles work to slow you down as they stretch, so you don’t fall too fast. Going up stairs *feels* hard, but for your muscles, going down them actually is harder!
Keep that in mind next time you're faced with a choice between stairs and an elevator 😉

It's so hard for me to admit this, but I have injuries that I don't know how to treat 🙈

I've been to physical therapy a few times before, but this is the first time I've had to make the decision to see an occupational therapist (to treat my two separate hand injuries).
The first one is De Quervain, or "Mommy wrist", is an inflammation of the tendons at the base of the thumb that's common among (you guessed it) mothers/main caretakers of babies. It can be prevented by keeping your thumbs close to your other fingers when lifting a bebe or other heavy object, as well as stretches, but sometimes it just doesn't cut it 🥲
The brace is supposed to help those tendons rest, which my fidgety fingers are not very happy with...
(The other hand injury could have also been prevented if I hadn't done something really stupid at the gym. That's a story for another time).
It was a very humbling experience being treated by another healthcare professional and I hope it'll help. Getting help and taking care of yourself are always good ideas!!

In honor of Mother's Day having been yesterday, here are two wellness tips from my mother that I find always work:
1. There's no ailment that taking a shower can't help with
2. When you don't feel well - get some fresh air!
Bebe was sick all of last week and it was overwhelming for all of us. Being outside for an hour while he slept (and catching up on some crafts) really helped us both!

For the past 5 months, bebe and I have been doing - going to the gym together (hey ) in the morning and then going swimming in the afternoon.
It's been an amazing way to show him how to make time for physical activity, how fun it can be, and how good it feels!
Now that he's in daycare, we'll be swtiching to for him and I'll be doing my best to go to the gym during the day to carry on the Sporty Sunday legacy 💪🏼

97. Wearing comfortable, supportive shoes whilst carrying bags through the airport is a lifesaver! Who are you people who schlep though airports in flip-flops?!
98. Relatively healthy snacks at the airport lounge (though I do love sitting on the floor)
99. Finishing the water in your bottle right before going through security is a great way to make sure you stay hydrated
100. My favorite health tip of all - go on a honeymoon!

I may not have been the best at counting (nothing new about that). But taking an extra second at the end of each day to think about what I did for my health that day really did change my persepctive on what constitutes health! I'm happy I took on this challenge and I'm even happier to be taking a break from my business page for the next month ✨
