February is American Heart Month, a national, month-long observance established in 1964 to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the U.S.

Let's take this opportunity to both encourage individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles, learn CPR, recognize heart attack symptoms, and take charge of their heart health through diet, exercise, and blood pressure management - but also, to celebrate those who work day and night in the lab, making sure tests are properly done, and that our shared battle against the heart disease epidemic is successful.

Investing in lab robotics? Betting your chips on high-throughput analyzers, automated sample handlers, and AI-driven workflows? Well, we can't blame you, as it does sound like progress.

However, without a modern laboratory information system at the center, that automation becomes a strategic risk, not a competitive edge.

See how: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0rnMQq0

Bottom line? If your automation strategy doesnโ€™t start with a robust LIS architecture that embraces scalability, governance, and interoperability, youโ€™re building a factory without a conveyor belt. Read the full article to get some practical tips and best practices on how to utilize robotics to be of actual service.

Next week, weโ€™ll recognize Phlebotomists Recognition Week (established in 2019 by the American Medical Technologists) to honor the professionals whose work sits at the very start of the diagnostic journey.

However, we have a personal angle here.

You see, phlebotomists play a critical role in patient care, lab efficiency, and the accuracy of clinical decisions that follow. Their precision, empathy, and consistency set the foundation for everything a lab delivers.

At LabOS, recognition goes beyond a single week; Through LabWay, we focus on designing workflows and systems that respect how phlebotomists actually work - reducing friction, improving communication, and ensuring their expertise is supported, not slowed down, by technology.

Because at the end of the day, when phlebotomists are empowered, labs run better, patients have better experiences, and care teams gain confidence in the data they rely on.

It seems like the FDA is finally easing the path for oncology diagnostics - the shift from Class III (PMA) to Class II (510(k)) is a potential major green light for labs, as it should make precision cancer testing faster and significantly more affordable to launch.

However, thereโ€™s a catch - lowering the regulatory hurdle doesnโ€™t reduce the clinical stakes.

In this new landscape, your LIS is no longer just a digital filing cabinet, as many legacy systems tend to be used for. If you're still using manual workarounds, you'll struggle to meet the "Special Controls" and label-alignment requirements the FDA will mandate.

To make this work, your LIS needs to do the heavy lifting:

- Managing complex NGS and PCR workflows without manual workarounds
- Ensuring reporting logic stays synced with rapidly changing FDA drug labels
- Providing the audit trails required for "Special Controls" without slowing down the bench

It seems weโ€™re on the path to a regulatory barrier falling. The FDA is set to open the door for more labs to enter the precision oncology space. The question is no longer whether you can get approved, but whether your platform is actually built to handle the complexity once you are.

Is your lab ready to scale with this shift, or is your LIS the bottleneck?

This is where strong lab operations make a real difference: The intersection of precision and compassion - Infusion nurses.

Every IV and every timing decision depends on accurate lab results, clear documentation, and zero room for error. Today marks National IV Nurse Day - a moment to recognize the infusion nurses and specialists who quite literally keep care flowing.

At LabOS, we work behind the scenes to help labs deliver clean, timely, and reliable results - so infusion nurses can focus on what they do best: caring for patients, not chasing data or second-guessing numbers. We want to say thank you to infusion nurses and the Infusion Nurses Society for the critical role you play in patient safety and outcomes.

Pop Quiz, Hot Shot*: Can you guess the three dimensions of LIS resilience?
If so, let us know in the comments. But not, check out our full breakdown right here: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0qGQ580

Donโ€™t get us wrong - medical lab uptime is still crucial, but itโ€™s not the same as true LIS resilience. And that distinction is now costing labs seven-figure losses in ROI.
