Can’t lose weight despite diet and exercise?
The reason may be hidden in sleep apnea.
It is not just snoring — it is a sleep disorder that can make weight loss harder.

Sleep Academy is a physician-led clinic dedicated to evidence-based sleep medicine.

Clinical care is tailored to each patient, with a focus on careful assessment, advanced diagnostics, and targeted treatment for insomnia, sleep apnea, snoring, daytime fatigue, non-restorative sleep, and other complex sleep concerns.

The goal is not to simply silence symptoms, but to understand the underlying problem and build a treatment plan with precision, clarity, and clinical depth.

Because sleep is not a luxury. It is a vital part of health, function, and quality of life.

In clinical practice, poor sleep is a symptom — not a diagnosis.

The complaint “I sleep badly” may correspond to a wide range of sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep-disordered breathing, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, and central disorders of hypersomnolence.

Each of these entities has its own pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria, and treatment approach.

Sleep medicine remains a relatively young but rapidly advancing field, and meaningful treatment starts with correct diagnostic evaluation rather than assumptions.

Not every bad night means a sleep disorder.

When life feels stressful, sleep often changes first. You may struggle to fall asleep, wake up at 3am, or feel like your sleep became shallow and “fragile.” This can be a very human response to stress.

Your brain and body are trying to stay alert. That can be exhausting — but it is also very human.

In many cases, the goal is not to panic about sleep, but to support the nervous system, keep a stable routine, and avoid turning a temporary rough patch into chronic insomnia.

Stress-related sleep disruption is common. You are not failing at sleep.

If sleep problems persist, become severe, or start affecting daily functioning, it is worth getting professional help.

Insomnia is a real medical problem that affects millions of people worldwide.

It is not just “bad sleep.”
When persistent, insomnia can profoundly affect mood, cognition, daytime functioning, and overall quality of life.

In severe cases, people may feel detached, unreal, or no longer like themselves.

Common does not mean harmless.
Chronic insomnia deserves proper assessment and evidence-based treatment.

Some people don’t just sleep 😴

They walk, talk, eat, sit up, or look confused while still being partly asleep.
This is called parasomnia 🧠

A group of sleep disorders that happens when the brain is stuck between sleep and wakefulness.

So yes — someone may look awake
but their brain is not fully online.

Common examples:
sleepwalking, sleep talking, confusional arousals, night terrors, and sleep-related eating.

A few important facts:
✨ Parasomnias are real medical phenomena.
✨ They are not always psychological.
✨ People often won’t remember the episode the next morning.

Episodes can be triggered by:
sleep deprivation, stress, irregular sleep, fever, alcohol, or some medications.
If it happens often, seems risky, or starts for the first time in adulthood, it is worth seeing a sleep specialist.

Sleep is fascinating. Sometimes a little too fascinating 🌙

3 Surprising Facts about Sleep:

1. During REM sleep, your body is temporarily paralyzed.
REM stands for rapid eye movement — a stage of sleep in which the brain is highly active, dreams are often especially vivid, and the eyes move quickly beneath the eyelids. During this stage, most of the body’s voluntary muscles are temporarily switched off.

2. Your brain clears waste more efficiently during sleep.
This is linked to the GLYMPHATIC system — the brain’s waste-clearance system. During sleep, fluid moves more effectively through brain tissue and helps remove metabolic byproducts that build up during the day.

3. People with insomnia often UNDERESTIMATE how much they sleep.
In insomnia, sleep can feel very light, fragmented, and unrefreshing. Because of that, some people genuinely feel they were awake for most of the night, even when they were asleep for part of it.
