Bonus: Most of us aren’t getting enough produce anyway — only 1 in 10 Americans eats the recommended amount daily.

When it's this hot outside, who doesn't crave a cold and refreshing treat?

The great news is that it's super easy to make your own!

Blend together your favorite smoothie ingredients and pour into a popsicle mold from your local dollar store or Max Stock.

Stick in the freezer and you'll be all set for when those cravings hit!

What's my favorite combination lately? Banana, blueberries, plain low-fat yogurt, low-fat milk (or milk alternative), and a spoonful of natural peanut butter.

Experiment with different ingredients and let me know what delicious creations you come up with!

Not all proteins are created equal!

How much protein do you really need?

The answer is ... it depends!

Protein needs vary based on age, medical conditions, blood test results, presence of injuries, height and weight, lifestyle, physical activity level, pregnancy status, and your goals.

Protein does more than build muscle: it plays important roles in your immune system, hormones, digestion, wound healing, and just about every system and structure of your body.

Eat too little and your body won't be able to function optimally.

Eat too much and it can be converted and stored as fat.

As a dietitian, I can assess your specific protein needs and create a plan to ensure you're getting just the right amount.

Constipation is a common complaint during Passover.

Your diet has suddenly changed from what you're used to and matzah is typically made of refined flour, which doesn't have fiber.

Ashkenazi Jews also typically avoid beans (kitniyot) during Passover, further decreasing fiber intake.

Here are 4 nutrition tips to help overcome your constipation woes during the holiday:

1. Eat fruits and vegetables at every meal. Even if you don't eat beans, you can meet your fiber needs by increasing your fruit and vegetable intake. Fruits and vegetables also are full of water, which can further help relieve constipation. See the next tip for more!

2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Water can help soften your stools, making them easier to pass.

3. Get moving! Engage in physical activity each day. Consider going for short walks after meals to improve digestion.

4. Choose whole wheat matzah (if tolerated). Try limiting your consumption of matzah to one square a day, and choose whole wheat matzah to increase how much fiber you eat.
