Congratulations to our Medical Retina fellow, Dr. Tatiana Perepelkina, for receiving the 2020 VitreoRetinal Surgery Foundation Research Award on her proposed project, “Predicting Progression of Stargardt Macular Disease: A Deep Learning Approach.” Rather than processing enormous amounts of longitudinal observations of disease progression to diagnose, she hopes to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to develop a deep learning algorithm capable of predicting progressive structural changes in Stargardt disease, the most common inherited macular dystrophy.
